Vehicle advice please.

Jimny with Mud terrains, these things WILL go any where.
Not a big truck but.........................well a bit like a Teckel !
 
Have had a Toyota Hilux and a Mitsubishi L200 , i used to do a bit of off roading and most of the guys there use either the Toyota ,the Mitsubishi or most commonly the land-rover , i currently have a L200 but am now trying to get hold of a landy , simply due to the fact that they are unbeatable off and on road , my advice would be to buy yourself a nice double cab 110 land-rover if your lucky you can get a decent one for 3000 quid and the beauty of it is it will hold its value unlike ALL of its Jap wanna be's ,which will depreciate as fast as you can break them, however landy's are extremely robust and cheep to repair , no question about it land-rover all the way nothing else even comes close (just not a freelander as thees are for hairdressers) they may be a bit slow but are work horses and you will do well to get one stuck . -ONE LIFE LIVE IT-

Big fan of Jimnys myself, but looking at his list of things to put in it he might need more than one! Unless he puts the dog box on the roof rails! :D

Thanks guys, any common or serious problems to consider on the Ford Ranger?
I just pivked up a V plate 2.5TD twin cab pickup with 184k on the clock for £1500 and it's a blooming good motor! One of my mates is on his second in 10 years! Just had a service in 2 years and he is a keeper! Vey good trucks! Buy one, end of!!!
 
Mercedes Vito 4x4. A 4x4 van all the time. Only if you truly do off road work a true 4x4 ( Hilux/ L200 / Landy ) are worth the money. I have a Nissan terrano 3 lit diesel for exact 1 year. Had a Renault Kangoo 4x4 before. The Nissan is technicaly better. In 1 year only Diesel and once oil and Filters. The Nissan is more comfy on the motorway to drive long distances. The Kangoo was very noisy on the motorway, seats were not comfortable at all, suspensions, brakes, were not up to heavy use in mud. The Kangoo was 5 times better on snowy roads, 5 times better on very muddy woodland tracks. Never got stuck in it. You could drive out of a "track" on the spot were you decided no matter how deep the track was or how muddy it was, not an inch further. The nissan is more powerfull, if the mud is very deep he goes were the kangoo lacked power. The Kangoo had 8" ground clearing. A pitty the Caddy 4motion is so close to the ground. A van is so much easier to load and has much more loading space. A well isolated ( noise), 140/150 HP, 4x4 van , the comfort of a nice car , good ground clearance thats what you need in most circumstances.

Over the last ten years l have been driving ford rangers many thousand of miles in all the different marks. I have had no major problem apart from a few rear springs. But as I tow a trailer all the time over forest roads about 95% of the time . I think this will happen with any motor.

ive had 2 2.0 td's 5 door grand vitaras and both of them had poor ground clearance, great low box,good on fuel just no good in the rough
 
Had a Jimny and it pretty much did go everywhere good 4x4, L200 at the minute loads of room, seems to be reasonable enough on fuel probably more so than the Jimny!!:D
 
I picked up a 14yr old Nissan Patrol with just 75K miles on Ebay for £3K. It does all the off-road jobs with solid 1970's engineering and few electronics to go wrong, but you can see the fuel gauge moving towards the '0' as you are driving it...

L200 reasonable on fuel? I really have to careful on the accelerator to get even 30mpg. Or have I just been spoiled by driving Astra and Focus estates that normally return 44-48mpg? Mine's a 51 plate, 4 Life, double cab. Are the newer ones better on the old motion lotion?
 
any 4 door pick up will do you , i like the hylux but the ranger is good and foot sure . Family in the front livestock and deadstock in the back
