Morning all,I’m looking at my first set of benos and I have only a small budget.I like the vortex dimondback with their vip warranty, but looking round stiner keep cropping up second hand for similar price.what are your thoughts please thanks in advance.

If you cannot stretch to the Viper HD, i would go for a different brand with ED glass. Either Athlon Midas or Vanguard Endeavour are very very good for the money. Delta also have good bins for not alot of money. I have a Diamondback HP scope on rimfire and while it is perfect for my needs, i would not want it for its last light gathering qualities

I have the diamondbacks and have had other vortex scopes too and the binos are considerable better than the scopes. The image and glass quality of the binos is in a different league to the Viper scopes i had. The eye relief was a bit fussy so took a while to get used to but is fine now. I can see detail with them in low light that I can't with the naked eye. Having now got rid of my vortex scopes for Deltas I would seriously consider the Delta binos as the glass in their scopes is superb. Vortex does have an amazing warranty so that is a big plus especially if they will be your only pair and/or used heavily

Vortex Diamondback 10x50 - binoculars review - AllBinos.com

The DIamond back scored 71against the equivalent priced Minox 73 and just fractionally below the Delta.

The tester suggested youd need a lab to tell the diferenace between the Delta and the Vortex and the Vortex looked better and were more tactile.

I wnrt for the Vortex HD over the Minox because they just looked and felt so much better and the performance isues were negligable

I have just got a pair of diamondback 10x42 bins, I love them, they are light weight, crystal clear great at low light. I use a Swarovski z6i scope it’s probably better for another 30 mins of low light after the binos becomes a little cloudy. However there is a £1800 difference in price. So I can’t complain really.

I'm a Vortex convert. Bought a pair of 8x42 Diamondback last year and I've been very impressed with them. Not "good for the price", just "good" full stop.

had my viper hd a few years now and cant fault them ,i tried them against mates swaro and my s/b scope and i can still see after dark,

Thank you all I will have a look round and see which of the suggested models I can have a look through.Being my only set I liked the no quibble warranty.Im not the most careful person. Thanks again for advice much appreciated.

As long as you get the newer 2016 onwards version, the are great. I had the 8x42 diamondbacks, but recently upgraded to the Vipers. Honestly the diamondbacks were just as bright and sharp as the Vipers, but they suffer from noticeable chromatic aberration, which is why I upgraded. If you don't know what that is then it wont bother you.

There are various techy elements to the equation - but ultimately everyone has slightly different eyes and visual preferences - hence you'll generally get a wide range of er ( no pun intended ) views.

The Vortex Diamondbacks are pretty darn good and the VIP Warranty is exactly what it says. Lots of other brands are pretty good too - the market is very competitive so bad glass is getting rarer.

Ultimately nothing beats some time handling and looking through optics. its always a good idea to try something specific and fairly repeatable - short of pinning an Optical resolution target to the back of the Mrs/Dog/ Kid and having them stand a set disance away at every shop/ stand, good field expedient targets are things like roof slates, brickwork, Trees in leaf - particularly the shadowed bark. that gives you a way to relate one glass to another.

Its the start of show season - be ever on guard for optics always seeming great at a sunny show and you get home to find you bought two loo rolls with clingfilm for lenses - but great chance to try lots of models. If you can make it up there, Northern Shooting Show at Harrogate in mid May is a great venue with mind boggling range of product there and a number of optics suppliers with outdoor stands to try stuff on. Say hello to ROb/ Jess ( Monarch ) and myself if you make it - we're in the Deer Focus area; and let us know how you get on.

Which delta and minox binos in the same price range would you recommend, Iv been looking at the hawke frontier ed ones how would the minox and delta compare to them ?

There is a lot of good feedback on here thank you all.i will take the advice and handle some different ones at game fares it is a mine field for a newbie lol

Hi,

Purchased a pair of 8 x 42 Vortex diamond backs a couple of years ago and have been impressed with them even at last light. I also lost a lense cover.

Contacted the company about purchasing parts in uk and there very prompt response was " please provide your address and we will send you a free set ". which they did.

I've got a pair of Vortex Viper HDs which I am very pleased with for the money. I have had a look through a pair of Swarovski and they are better, no doubt about it. For the amount of stalking I do I couldn't justify the additional expense, when I had a rifle, scope, mod and sticks to buy.

Optics Warehouse have got them on sale at £399 at the moment, a lot of optics for the money:

Thank you all I will try to make the Northern shooting show.Would be great to meet some of the people off here and have a good look a the different budget binos

Bought a pair of viper hd 10x50 bino’s last week, unbeatable for the money. All the guys at work have Leica, zeiss swaro’s etc and there’s hardly any difference, obviously they’re not quite as good but I’d rather put the £900 I saved towards another rifle! If cash is a little tight uttings do 12 months 0% finance.
