Vortex Viper HD Binoculars

I have used & use quite a few high end binos & scopes and when it comes to binos I must say the Viper HD´s are among or maybe the best when It comes to bang/buck. The binos I use today are the El range 8x42 and my scopes are S&B, Swarovski and Sightron S3.
But the Viper HD´s are great binos!

I’ve had 10x50 DiamondBacks for 6 years. Very robust and good low light performance. The Viper range is the one to go for now by all accounts.

I’m not a fan of Vortex scopes but I believe they make good binoculars. Vortex got their start in binoculars and branched into scopes at a later date.

I recently changed from 10x50 Vipers to new Leica Geovids. The Leicas are very slightly sharper/brighter in low light, but I mean very slightly. Vortex are fantastic for what you pay and you won't see any difference optically unless comparing side by side in that first/last 5 minutes of light.

I have the Vortex 12x50 Diamondbacks and they are fantastic. I was sat in a high seat at first light with a friend with Swarovski 10x42 and there was minimal difference when we compared them. I have just ordered a Vortex scope for my new rifle also, hopefully that will be as good.

I compared the furys, when they first came out in 2016 (?), to my El ranges. They glass had a somewhat blueish color and they were not that good in low light compared to my Swaros. After looking in them for awhile I got a little headache or at least they were not that nice to look in for a longer period. Did not like them.

Thanks for the advice gents - greatfully received! Has anyone tried the furys? TIA

I originally had Viper HD and then moved on to Fury's. They are exactly the same glass but with a rangefinder built in.

Rangefinder is accurate, The ranging button is a little fiddly with gloved hands but that is easily cured by glueing a small raised button to the top of teh button!

To my eyes where Vortex glass falls short is in low light. My experience is with scopes, maybe it’s true with their binoculars too.

I think the best European brands have got the edge. if I was out 2 or 3 times a week i would probably 'upgrade' but given i get out one every few months I wouldn't get the benefit.

Great binoculars, very very little difference between these and the big brands. I had a pair for 2 years and only sold them to upgrade to Vortex Fury rangefinders these use the same glass.
I have the vipers. Did you notice any difference at last light moving to the fury?

Last summer I sat down at our patio table with the intention of a last-light bino test, so from stock I had Diamondbacks, Viper, Fury's and Razor's against my Swaro 8x42 RF's.

Picking out a neighbours tiled roof about 150yrds away the results were very surprising, the Diamondback were very good, tile definition suffered about 5mins earlier than the Swaro's, Viper & Fury's in my opinion may have been a couple of minutes short of the Swaro's however through my 50yr+ old eyes the difference was very minimal, finally the Razor's didn't really appear to give any benefit over the Viper/Fury's even though they are a considerably higher price point.

For me being able to gain another 10-15 mins at last light isn't critical as for me this has created problems in the past so I practice I generally avoid..

Have compared Vortex alongside some top end glass yes the top end glass is better but only slightly
not three or four times the price better.

Vortex all the way fantastic glass for the money and a no quibble warranty what more could you want..

had a pair of diamondback 8x42 but recently upgraded to the viper hd 10x50, ( eyesight not what it used to be) , although they are heavier i am very pleased with them in all conditions and have kept the diamondbacks as spares, awesome warranty and fabulous price
