Morning all,

I am looking at options for a walk in chiller to install in the garage and I have come across a couple of companies who sell 'flat pack' and 'build it yourself' chiller units. Such as:

The space I am looking to fill is approx 2.5 metres x 2 metres.

Does anyone have experience with these? and could give some recommendations for suppliers and some things to look out for? Also, if anyone has something similar that they are looking to sell, then I may be interested.

Many thanks,

RS

I bought something very similar to the size you are looking for last year, second hand, but made by the big ice box company. It came with a zanotti chiller unit. Two years old and at a fraction of the new cost- they are such a specific item not many want them second hand.

In summary- Absolutely fabulous. We dismantled it piece of cake, re-installed it, again really easy, left it a few days plugged it in and turned it on all easy. The most important thing is a level floor otherwise the panels struggle to fit together as each relies on the others to be square and true.

Got one of these 2170x2170 chillers from Tarant on the Estate. Easy to assemble, easily holds 8 Fallow. They are pricey but got no complaints from this one we've had for 5 years :

I have a s/h one my friend got me also he did the gas work. I put a free standing hanging rail in which works fine.
Not quite the size you are showing but just right in my garage.
It has a cam hook with 10mm allen key to lock it in place. v easy to fit together.

Hi Dama Dama,

Thanks for that - I do like the look of the Tarrant ones.

The rail system inside the chiller - was that installed by yourself or did that come with the unit?

Many thanks,

Tom

Hi Tom,

Tarrant supplied the rail system as an optional extra, and we then installed it at the same time as the build of the unit. Came with instructions for everything. They were very happy to talk everything over on the phone. Not sure what delivery charge would be up to you?
Might be worth giving these guys a shout:

Nathan.

I had a good chat with one of the guys from Gray-Adam’s at the game fair. Really know their stuff and can build you basically anything.
Not sure if they offer a self build option but well worth contacting.

I helped my friend build 1, he just bought a load of panels and we built it ourselves. If he was doing it again, he said he would buy the cam lock style panels, yes a bit more expensive but the corners come already made and its far easier to piece together. The plane panels he bought all need cut at the corners and for the roof, which is quite footery!

I bought a modular one from glacier coldrooms- it was quite hands on build as door hole needed cutting and the frame than held panels in place also needed cutting to length. Not really modular, more supply of the right bits for you to sort yourself. About half the price of Tarrant from memory. Fitted a couple of lengths of this stuff bolted through ceiling panel with big square washers and had a 100kg stag in there no probs: Hanging Meat Rail Sliding System for Meat Rooms and Meat Delivery Trucks Van 2Mt | eBay

Did you ever get one RS?
Yes I did! See link to my thread on this at the start of this year.

This is exactly what we did. Good value and works well. The camlocks are very simple to use to fix it all together

If you are thinking about buying a walk in chiller give me a shout and I will tell you if it's worth buying. If the chiller needs decommissioning I can do it for you at cost.
It doesn't matter which type of panels you buy there is just a knack of fitting them, including very little cutting.
