Wash in Waterproofing Treatment

I’ve got an old ex army smock that I use, it isn’t waterproof but I’d like to make it showerproof. Do any of the wash In treatments work?
I’m not expecting them to turn water in a prolonged downpour just something to turn the odd shower.
Thanks

Should add some waterproofing. There's 2 parts to it, Nikwax Tech wash first, make sure you clean the washing machine soap drawer out thoroughly first and give the washing machine a rinse cycle empty. Wash item in tech wash. Then wash again with Nikwax Tx direct for the waterproofing. I use them regularly with my hiking jackets and trousers, it's great stuff.

There was a thread on here a while ago where someone with plenty of knowledge (maybe @NigelM ) who suggested spray on ones are better as they only coat the outside of the fabric and so help to keep the breathability rather than sealing the inside too.

Diver Dave’s or Graingers.
Aren’t nikwax anti hunting?

Granted it is from 2019, but can't find anything else more recent. Would suggest their fine with it?

Another +1 for Diver Dave's stuff. Works best if you can gently heat/dry the garment after application, so I usually don't do it until the winter and then bung it on the radiator. He sells it via eBay.

I've tried a few different spray on products and all seems to repel water but like you said won't withstand working in the rain.

Desperatly trying to waterproof an old favourite I found myself on YouTube....you can make your own by dissolving silicone in white spirit. Bit whiffy for a few days but probably worked for longer than the off the shelf stuff.

Have a search in your area for anyone who offers a New Zealand rug washing service (equine) They usually can reproof clothing easily and have industrial washing machines to do so
