What age to introduce kids

On the subject of the fluffy fraternity we also foster. Almost all the kids we’ve had (mostly short term) have watched me butcher dear and the foster company encourages it! The current one is cooking Chilli Con Carne at school soon and has asked the teacher if he can use venison mince. They were all very interested.
Perfect :thumb::tiphat:

I teach youngsters to shoot Monday to Friday

Last week we skinned and butchered a roe - the kids were fully engaged, pics taken and posted at the school

This August I had the family staying.

Neighbour popped over to hint that she had a lot of rabbits that I had not attended to

I made a plan for the following morning and asked my 14 year old step grandson (if there is such a thing) if he’d like to come with

That was greeted with an outraged storm of protest from the city types that made up the extended family

I just shrugged and got on with it next morning

I reckon I was about 8 when I started following the Cattistock hounds on a bicycle behind my dad.

I take my youngest regularly, stsrted around 3, hes 5 in febuary and loves it, spent many a day sat in a hide shooting pigeons or out stalking with me, even had his first over nighter in my boar hide/ insulated shed on stilts “camping”, no boar sadly but a very happy 4 year old.
He Can hit a 6” steel off the roof of my pick up for groups with my 22 at 50yds on bags, hes shot my marlin 1894, obviously under very close guidance with very good safe backstops ect, have to get him on the .222 soon haha

I don't understand why people come into an open forum and tell the world that they are breaking Firearms law.

“I let my 3 yr old steer the car on the way back from the pub when I’m too ****ed”

All good fun, but I'd delete the second paragraph if I were you. What you do is up to you, but advertising to all and sundry that UK FAC holders show such blatant disregard for firearms law isn't going to help any of us in the longer term.

(Unless of course the events to which you refer took place abroad, in a country which allows it, in which case fair enough).

Or he is having a giggle, with a Feb 29th leap year birth, at 3 he is 12years, At 5 he is 20?

There are photos of me aged 10 days old in a moses basket in the back of landrover next to Lake Chilwa in Malawi with labrador, ducks and shotgun.

My earliest memories are tramping through the bush following Pa shooting Guinea Fowl and Francolins.

And Pa had to call in Rhodesian National Parks to move elephants back into Gonerazhou National Park from the land they were clearing to turn into irrigated agriculture. I was about 4, and remember helping the hunter cleaning his elephant rifle and him say that was just a little bit small to go with him hunting elephants, but he promised he would take me when he was a bit bigger. He stayed with us a few times and he wrote in my parents address book.

My own daughter has been out in the wilds of Scotland from day one. When she started school she found it surprising that most of the other kids didn’t spend their weekends in tents going fishing, canoeing, deer stalking etc.

Sorry, should of been a LOT clearer and specific, my mistake, so it was with my old bsa air rifle, obviously sub12ft/lbs and the shotshells are as crap as i was told they were and shouldnt of bothered with them!
And hoped it was obviously said in jest about putting him on the tail end of my fox rifle, clearly that would not be happening!

As soon as they have the patience, and understanding that ......

It ain't a computer game , you WILL GET COLD, YOU WILL GET BORED ,
WE as Fathers have to make it fun , if that sinks in, and it's in them( like us ) we've cracked it ,

Camping, fire , bushcraft etc , but ......

Sometimes it just ain't in um ,

That's life , we all have different hobbies/ pursuits in life

That's what makes us individuals,

It's up to you as a father to decide , and your child will tell you/ make u aware that they are ready,

Or maybe not

You will know, my son and 2 girls know how to shoot, use tools n build fires etc ,

My son n eldest daughter are not interested , but............

Just like learning to swim or ride a bike/ car

They know the basics, that will not be forgotten, any skill WILL , go into the back of the mind , and can be used later on in life

Happy memories of the outdoors sink in

It's called knowledge / the basics ,

Passed on
