Seems a little pointless to me. If your security is sufficient for the rest of the year, then it should be sufficient when you are on holiday. I suppose it may be different if you live in the sticks somewhere and have no immediate neighbours, but around here someone would definitely call the police if there was a burglar alarm blaring and a couple of shifty looking blokes trying to manhandle a large cabinet into the back of a transit... Also, as everyone who lives with me works 9-5 or goes to boarding school, there are still long stretches of time when the house is empty, but I still don't lodge the guns in with the RFD whilst I'm at work.
Having said that, if the police are willing to pay for me to keep my guns with an RFD whilst I'm away I am quite happy to comply.

My mate does this every time he goes on holiday, he even takes the bolts with him! he is completely paranoid.
When he is late picking me up for shooting its usually because there have been some work men or people talking in the street so he wont bring his guns out if they can see him do so, the funny thing is he is married to a copper.

He's dreaming, what about people who work offshore? It'd be pretty expensive and a total pain in the a#se taking them to an RFD every 3 weeks for three weeks!! As said before if your security is good then theres no problem .

i rarely go on holiday anyway an if I do there is alway people watching the house and I have ip cameras so i can see on my phone if anything is happening.

Seriously though this just goes to show how flawed our licence system is due to the fact that very little is cast in stone and so much is left to the FLO own interpretations
Perhaps David off here from BASC could give a helpful suggestion to this ?

Never go on holiday only stalking holidays but if I do pop out for the odd outing the wife's usually there to look after the dogs and her dogs a German shepherd who judging by the dog hairs when I return home spends most of the time in the house not the boot room while I'm absent ! Grrrrrr
