what do you guys do when you go on hols ???

Most of burglaries are done by opportunists and usually don't go near anywhere with burglar alarms, RFD has big signs over shop stating GUNS ETC IN HERE...I don't have anything saying look at me. My Security is good enough for all year round and all it takes is for me to go out at night lamping etc and in that time because there is no one in the house My security systems fail altogether...doh I don't think so. I have a back up Power supply, Underfloor pressure pads, touch sensitive door/window alarms, secret inside and outside perimeter cameras and as soon as alarm activated a direct call to myself and police stating alarm has went off. 6mm thick Gun Safe weighing over 250 odd pounds and that's not including anything within. What do I say...... bring it on...... but don't even think of claiming for a bad back whilst trying to remove from the wall with the umpteen bolts into solid wall and umpteen bolts into the floor, oops forgot about the steel plate below the strengthened wooden flooring. My neighbours are fantastic as well and they don't miss a thing. By the way am not an RFD- maybe a bit paranoid and when FLO visited said I have more security than most RFDs. Maybe overboard but how can you ever take a chance, especially with security.

The FEO has checked your security, they have noted where you live, i.e. Village, Town, middle of the city, they look at the windows doors. They check your cabinet to make sure it is bolted securely to the inner fabric of the building, and not a dry lined wall. The bolts are removed and kept separate in another lockable compartment, and the cabinet holds the required amount of weapons, and not over crammed. The ammo is in another cabinet or inner compartment and bolted securely to the house fabric.

Apart from a house alarm, which you will be required to have if you have over a certain amount of weapons there is no need to take any further action requiring security as far as I am aware, and anything else in my opinion is making a rod for your own back and possibly for others in the future as the authorities will be looking into further restrictions over the coming years that's for sure.

Whilst I would be the first to agree that firearm security is of paramount importance at all times, I do not see the necessity to put firearms or parts there off with an RFD when away from home. Also it pays not to broadcast it about that you own weapons either.

Well said, except i think it would have been your FEO that checked your security arrangements not an RFD!

Ian.

Correct, that's due to 15 days away stalking and 3 nights at home. Slightly knackered!! Now corrected, but thank you for pointing it out.

Used to drop mine off, including handguns with a shooting colleague who had room in his cabinet when we had our annual 2 weeks holiday abroad. All that was left in my cabinet was the bolts or mags.
Letter into Police and they were happy with this as my cabinet was just an old locker that had been fitted with padlocks and my friend had authority to store them from the Police.

Now I have a modern approved cabinet my guns stay where they are.
