GFA, how astute of you to remember that post!! Funny new member posted once, not even introduced himself to the forum as per our requirements. Hmm maybe another Troll, or another trouble making idiot who we do not require on this site.

We all take shots at times that would be considered long. After 30 years of stalking I have taken the odd one or two. WHAT I do not do is make a regular habit of it, I also do not openly brag about how many I have shot or the ranges, and if I do take a shot its the body not head or neck which some on here boast that they take Roe neck or head at 300yds on a regular basis. The shot you refer to was taken with a 25.06, not a 30.06, I do not own one, never have. It was resting on top of a very large fence post, on a still morning clear visability. Robin was with me and it was his first time on that particular lease I own, and the shot was just over 200 hundred yards, as I have used a range finder in that area so I was well aware of the distance.

If you really want to know (My personal best was a Springbuck in the khalahari desert, with a 270 weatherby, 333yds) there you go, you can now officially say I have joined the bragging brigade

I should introduce yourself first, before making another post, otherwise you may find your membership short lived. There's a good chap both JAYB and myself are very good at long range Troll shooting. Oh by the way I never miss a TROLL

what do i have to defend i can shoot can you bud its very clear that there are a lot of members who are not good shooters this is very evident by very close shooting not having the time nor the skill to shoot further

I have now lost all respect for what you was trying to say. I emphasise the word 'trying' as you have now stepped into the realms of a completely different argument. I dont think that now anyone cares what distance you can shoot deer - in my opinion you have proved yourself to be disrespectful to other members of the forum, and their views on this very heated topic. What is not in question is peoples ability to shoot at that range, l've shot to 1000yards with the ATC with SA80's, that said l prefer to be able to control more of the variables in shooting live quarry by exerting my field craft and stalking ability. If l was on the hill and a shot presented itself at 500yards, l would consider it, then consider a way to get closer. Not take the shot directly to prove some macho idea of myself. If l had no option by to take this shot, for instance in a culling situation, l would endevour to make sure everything l have done can allow me to follow up a wounded animal quickly.

I was in a pub toilet some months back with a mate (no comments please) taking a leak and he turned and told me while peeing that the water was cold, I replied "yes and its quite deep as well"

The longest deer that i have shot is approx 220mtrs, the majority of deer that i shot during the season were shot between 50mtrs and 120mtrs. For me its the challenge of glassing your animal and working out how you are going to get in to position to get a safe shot without the deer detecting your presence.

Also when stalking hinds/calfs, the closer you get the better if you get the chance for a second/third shot.

The shot is an anticlimax, for me its the stalk that you remember not the shot.

Nice one Malc,don't know about the urinals at school but me ,my brother and a few mates used to get up on a flat garage roof and see who could pee the furthest and i can't remember ever losing.
