When Will We Be Hunting Abroad

KLM, Lufthansa and Ethiopian airlines are all good viable options for flying to Windhoek Namibia without going through O. R. Tambo Jo,burg. Their all firearms friendly also.
We were flying Qatar but alas now next year

I have flights booked with Baltic Air in October for a 3 day Moose hunt in Estonia. I can rebook free if we are not allowed to go.
I had issues with BA regarding flights to Nashville, they refused a refund and behaved as if they were Ryanair so as I paid with my credit card I used the charge back system and got my money back within 3 weeks. Did the same with Ethiopian. I now have blacklisted both airlines.

What agency are you booked to Estonia with?

I have recently spoken to one of my good PH friends in SA. They are all hopeful of a return to normality in some form this year, but in all honesty I would be surprised if this happens.
I think the likely hood of anything close to normality for overseas hunting is going to be the back end of this year. The airlines will be charging a fortune when it does, prices are bound to go up. I personally think a lot will depend on the role out of the vaccines through out the world, and how quickly it takes effect. I hope I am wrong but at the moment I would keep my money in my pocket and wait to see what happens later this year.

I have heard good things about Qatar Airlines flying via Doha does anyone have experience of taking a rifle with them on the Heathrow, Doha, Windhoek route as that is an option that’s cuts out SA/Johannesburg

Hi Tom, my Finnish friends sort of all out so I don't know. I will ask him and get back to . He always gets us a bloody good deal. The cost of our flights return with firearms was £250. Though I would book now before the prices go up.

Mid 2022 at the very earliest for tourism to select parts of the world. Africa will not be on that list.

2024-25 before international leisure travel starts to look anything like it did before the pandemic.

Think I’m being ridiculous? How many of you would have believed me if I’d told you a year ago we’d still be in lockdown now...
Given the @Mungo you are close to those who are doing the science on all of this I suspect pretty much correct.

When do we expect business travel to start up again. Especially important for UK business so that we can forge links with new markets now that we are out of the EU.

Yes I am beginning to think no trips to Africa before 2022, happy to be wrong

I have to say that I have not missed the 13hr flights to Korea in cattle class, jetlagged weeks in the office there for no real purpose than showing one's face, soulless hotels away from my family and the absolutely disgraceful carbon footprint of doing such a thing. Do miss the food though...

It will be 2024-5 before this bull**** comes to an end at a minimum. Unless you can afford to pay the fines they are imposing for "unneccessary" travel out of the country!

I'm looking to stalk in the UK in November and hopefully boar hunting abroad this year. I'm sure hunting will be back to near normal here for the next hunting season.

Last year having previously gone to Jura for a week Red Stag stalking for 4 years on the spin I decided to try the east coast and no ferries!! option. Having given up on going to SA or Namibia I booked two different estates for a week each and enjoyed it. Given I don’t think I will get abroad in 2021 I have now confirmed two weeks on one of the estates in Sept/October 10 days Stag stalking with nice accommodation. That could be the only holiday we will be going on this year and that is still dependant on restriction on travel and entering Scotland being lifted. We live in strange time

I volunteered as a steward at the Exeter Westpoint vaccination centre and was delighted to be offered, in my mid 60's, a spare no show jab of Astra Zeneca on 4th Feb. Within a week we find that the new SA variant only gives protection against sever symptoms to the AZ jab. Much better immunity with the Pfizer jab. Bu99er. The SA health care system is swamped atm so if you get ill you're in the proverbial. Dilemma is risk getting mild or modest symptoms or cancel ? I'm hoping to get more info on having the Pfizer jab second dose. Otherwise it looks doubtful that I will be going to take up the hunts which were paid for and rolled over to this year. They have had a very good rainy season so there is plenty of feed for the extra populations of game that would have been hunted last year, but whether they can survive with no income for 2 years in a row is doubtful.

I looked at prices recently to the US, something has changed, what were once 'non refundable' tickets are now refundable, that will help with my decision if I decide to hunt abroad, or holiday abroad again.
At the moment the prices, although expensive, weren't that different from 12 months ago.
But I agree, not booking anything yet, getting my jab on Wednesday, 60 years young.
Cheers
Richard

Yes given I will be going to both SA and Namibia as soon as we can do that I am in the 60-65 group and so my ” Choice” would be the Pfizer jab due to its better performance against the SA strain. I will research how the Moderna stacks up against the SA strain as well as that’s coming on stream soon as is the Noavax If is wasn’t planning to go to Africa I would be happy to get any of them but if there is an option at the time then the Pfizer one looks like the class leader. All the guys I play tennis with who are over 65 got jabbed by just turning up at one of the big centres without an appointment and asking if there were any gaps/ no shows, mid morning or late afternoon seems to be the time to turn up, it worked for 4 of them

Just spoke with a mate of mine who is an agent for a SA hunting guy. He told me that there are 2000 deaths a day there from Covid 19. the government are trying to suppress it but basicly its out of control. I wont be going to Africa till 2022.

Yes there are countries where you believe all their stats and statements, sadly there is a longer list of those you don’t. Given SA’s dependence on tourism and also the government making itself look more successful than it is both to their own population and foreign governments I very much doubt the published figures are a reflection on what’s going on over there

We are being told we will complete our vaccinations by the end of June so I hope to get up to sweden again in October or November.

Good luck with it, I think you have more chance of getting to any of the Scandinavian countries to hunt than a number of us trying to get out to Africa. What are you hunting in Sweden out of interest
