Which hunting boots?

"The standard heavy gauge triple leather sole is hob nailed (tackets or tacketty boots) with treble hobs and toe plates, but can be left plain or fitted with flat studs – please specify your sole finish when ordering. Metal ring tip (horseshoe) type heels fitted on all."

Thank you for posting that. You just got them another customer!

Has anyone tried Crispi boots? I’ve seen them a bit on social media pages but don’t know how good they are.

Stay well away from Harkila, absolute rubbish, my first pair failed in 10 months and as I had lost the receipt they were not interested.
I was then silly enough to be tempted by the half price offer, they failed in 8 months but this time I made sure I had the receipt, they refunded the full purchase price and I bought a pair of Grisport 10" high boots from Hoggs.
The best boots I ever had, top quality Italian leather very comfortable and still going strong 4 years later.

This summer I decided it was time to get a new pair of boots. My Scapa Atacks being about 27 yrs old. Taunton Leisure were very good and I ended up buying a pair of Scapa Deltas. They were neigh on half price in the sale. I have lived in them and they are warm dry and very comfortable. In fact I dont think I worn my wellies more than a couple of times since. I have worn them in some teribly muddy poached ground when foxing and even then they have stayed dry. Regular clean and dry and using Scapa leather treatment they shed water. Sole grip is excellent. Cannot fault them.

Anybody had a pair of these or know anything about them? They’re Altberg Raby boots otherwise known as the ‘gamekeeper’ high-leg boots...
P.s. thanks for all the info so far..

Ive used altberg defenders for years, love them, and unbelievable value. Decided to treat myself to a pair of the Gunnerdale (Similar to the Ruby) boots just before Christmas, (bit of self gifting!) and delighted with them. Extremely well made and very comfortable, no probs so far, and Altberg are a good British company, nice to deal with.

I’ve had a pair of Harkila mountain hunter goretex 10inch for just over a year.

The extra height is great in terms of minimising water over the top of the boot as it’s often boggy where I take them. Ankle support is great. On a 12-14 hour hill day, I have eventually found my ankles getting tired and realised my laces had slackened a bit. After re tightening them, what a difference. Very stable and it’s possible to appreciate what a pair of boots do for your ankles. This insure you would get in any boot but these have a relatively soft upper but do still provide stability.

The sole is a proprietary Harkila one I think and it’s quite soft. Very comfortable and great for sneaking up on deer but I would get a stiffer sole for longer days on steeper territory. That said, I’ve done plenty of long days on steep hills including some Munro bashing and have managed fine. I think the other pair you see advertised by Norris have a Vibram sole which looks a bit more like a stiffer boot. Hard to tell online!

All said, I liked them enough to get a pair for my father.

Mine are 9 1/2 UK which is about what I always get in boots. My dress shoes are 8.5.

One last thing, the half price offer shouldn’t rush you. Every single leaflet I’ve had from the shop and very add I’ve seen since advertisers them at half price!

If you would like a shorter boot the Asolo fugitive are fantastic. Wear them straight out of the box. I wore the uppers out on mine however so they are no longer waterproof (after some years of abuse) and I now wear them in summer on dry days.

All the best with the quest.

Love Meindl boots great quality and great fit much better than Le Chameau IMHO. But my Hanwag Trapper Top GTX are the best boots I’ve ever had. Exceptional.

I’ve heard they are very good boots and last many seasons of looked after. Nice gaiter solution as well.

Firstly, happy new year to you all! This subject has probably been covered in the past, but I just wanted hear some more up to date views. I’m looking for a pair of hunting boots, mainly for deer stalking. I was looking at either Meindl Dovre extreme gtx, Altberg Barningham country boots or, Harkila intrepid hunter gtx?? A wide fit would be preferable... Does or has anyone owned a pair or have any input on the subject please? Thanks in advance...
Brandecosse!
Comfortable, durable, British company.
The best boots I’ve had by far.

Any idea what they are like long term ? Not a brand I’ve ever heard off but they look really good .

Place I was in the other day seem to sell an awful lot of Crispi boots and really rate them .
I noticed a fair bit of cracking on my old Dovre boots but am hoping a couple of years left in them yet.
No but I’m pleasantly surprised by the quality and fit but the ‘independent’ and overly long tongue arrangement may not be to everyone’s liking and may account for them being heavily discounted on Sports Pursuit: £150 rather than £300 if you can believe the pricing.

The bonus is the green leather is not as per the picture but more of a subtle moss GREEN-like hue!

Ps: Now only have 43/UK 8.75 (9) in stock?

I have relatively wide feet but medium width altberg defenders fit just fine. They come with extra sole inserts to make the fit tighter should you need to

Well after a bit of digging it appears this is an Edinburgh company using Italian materials and manufacture.
They also offer lifetime warranty and servicing on the boots and the original pricing was correct

So I’ve ordered a pair.
If anything they will allow my Dovre extreme to be used for “ better “ days 😆
The new Dovres are nearly £400 as well so £150 doesn’t seem to bad at all
I like the thick leather outer that shouldn’t need waxed either.

Fingers crossed and thanks for the heads up
