Which Smock?

Haven't tried the Titan Pro but it has good reviews & it's on sale here;

Swedteam Titan Pro Anorak - A brilliant Goretex smock

Interesting that no-one has mentioned a Nomad, of which I have 2. They have their flaws but still worth having if you can get a bargain somewhere. I would hesitate to recommend them at their full rrp but certainly worth half the asking price.

No matter what you wear you will end up with some moisture inside from perspiration I have gone away from so called breathable and gone for a old school smock, it's light, windproof, waterproof but you don't sweat like your in a sauna.

I agree and love the "No1 Smock" but at £550 and made from other than Ventile??

i have a deerhunter smock i love it keeps the wind out and i only need a couple of thin layers underneath a always wear a wicking tshirt underneath my warm layer and never have a problem with damp

Deerhunter are probably the best we've seen as they are breathable and micro fleece lined. They also have a very useful binocular pocket on the chest.

Ridgeline are good but very sweaty.

Swanndri seem to get good feedback but we've never sold one so can't speak from experience.

Avoid ridgeline at all cost, waterproof but not breathable at al!!! I had 2 monsoon smocks, both went back after returning home soaked with sweat after an afternoon's gritting, I was given an igloo top as Christmas present, that's as bad!! I really like the bison bush craft wool smocks and the arktis/country covers smocks, right money too.

Great; I ordered a guide shirt today to replace an ancient Swandri one. They were terribly helpful with sizing as I can rarely buy anything off the shelf that just fits.

Got another guide from the Mrs for Christmas, my first was an xl, a bit too big but great over a base layer and a fleece, quiet, shower proof, silent a more wind resistant than some "wind resistant" tops I've had!!! The new one is a large, great on shoot days, smart enough with tweeds, shirt and tie. Just ordered a shirt type in spring check:-D

How breathable are they?, liked them but don't know anyone who has one and had my fingers burned with the ridgeline sweat suites.

To be honest, not especially. My shooting/stalking tends to involve a lot of walking so where possible I usually head off in a body warmer & only put on the smock when I get to where I'm going or if the weather is especially filthy. For their weight they are certainly warm, but as they are light they are easy to carry in a roesack etc. Not the thing to wear anywhere near brambles but they are fairly quiet in scratchy forrestry blocks, though not as quiet as my wool tops. They do seem to be almost completely waterproof though (in both directions).

I've had nearly 20 years use out of one of these - Classic Smock | Polar Expedition Rescue Equipment, Pulks, Sleds, Tents, Clothing - nice and cool in the summer, allows plenty of breathability and keeps worst of the weather out. Have used it in all weathers including Scottish blizzards.

Mine is getting pretty tatty around the edges so have got one of these - Bergans Morgedal Mens Anorak

works very well, but I am not sure about the big pouch pocket, it doesn't allow you to unzip to breath or stuff gloves etc. whereas my Snowsled has a pocket either side of the central zip - big enough to take my 7x42 bins.
