Winchester xpr

Thanks for updating that on the Permacoat. I just bought a Hunter VIAS. If it shoots, I may buy a threaded one in some caliber, in the Vortex combo for $463.00.

Winchester was offering a $50.00 rebate and and Bud's has a combo with a Vortex 3-9x40 for $463.00, and others had the Hunter VIAS camo with Permacoat on all the metal for $399.00, so I bought a VIAS model in 7mm-08...picking it up at lunch time today....Warne bases on the way, too.

It is not as light as the Tikka T3, but will be what I want for rough hunting in bad weather, and a loaner rifle ( I have T3s in 7mm-08, .308, .223 and .30-06 and love them). The T3X costs almost twice this XPR on sale.

Reviews and test of the rifle here, state side, have mostly been .30-06, .300 Win Mag and 7mm Rem Mag, and all have been very good groups. It comes threaded with a 20 or 21 inch barrel in .308, .30-06 and .300 WM.

Mechanically, it is like a Browning A-Bolt III.

I will run a variety of factory and my handloads through this XPR and post results.

The Winchester XPR Hunter VIAS 7mm-08 looks and feels good. The stock is very rigid and hard, with stipples on the grip and fore end. The butt is hollow, but not as hollow sounding at the Tikka T3, so no problem there. The recoil pad is like a Limbsaver, probably because this rifle comes in everything from .243 to .300 Win Mag. The Permacoat finish on the metal is a dark gray, which looks good with the camo on the stock. Bolt is oversized, like an A-Bolt III, and pretty smooth. Barrel is 22 inches, fairly stout, by Begara. The trigger is good, right out of the box - absolutely no take up, no creep, no overtravel, breaking at just under 3 pounds. Total rifle weight is 6 lbs 8 oz.

I mounted Warne M916 / M954 bases, which fit perfectly, with no overlapping the ejection port or receiver.
Now for a 12x or 15x scope to try different loads.
