It's worth about a tenner lol
It's going back , I wouldn't dry the dog off with it lol lol ,

Mereside , I don't need any more kit , but if you decide to make a couple I could be interested , as long as it costs no more than £50 lol lol

Had it now for a short while and really like it.
The body is double layered blanket and arms and hood single, there is also a large pocket on the front for both hands but also 2 smaller pockets within to put your phone/keys/ammo etc.
The hood is a typical bushcraft type and is large but can be pulled tighter with draw strings.
My normal gortex jacket (10+ years old) doesnt breath so found the wool smock different in that you can feel the breeze passing through whereas my gortex jacket you would just sweat.
Had the measurements made to my specs so fits like a glove.
Will get some pics later.
Thanks for the update. I’ve got a shopping list......

I have recently bought these and think that they are good value:

Mine does come up a little big, slightly odd shape, my wife thinks it smells musty, but is quite thick, 100% wool and good for stalking, £17.50 (new as in not used before) sand colour:

And I have bought these which I like, 80% wool and quite thick, £6, (new as in not used before):

(I hasten to add that I have no connection with Militarymart, other than being a customer.)

just a little update, pants nearly finished

But you can't deny your new smock looks well happy with itself!

Lodden Cloth is wonderfully warm. German friends all have big romper suits or overalls made from thick loden cloth. These go over all your clothing and keep you lovely and warm as you sitting in a high seat whilst waiting up for boar, or standing on a driven hunt in the snow.

I have a loden cloth rifle slip which I fold up to make a comfortable seat pad when sitting and wating for something.

I ws hunting in Austria after Chamois and the guides all had lodden cloth poncho in their bags. Really useful piece of kit- main use is to keep telescope neatly wrapped up till its used, but then if it rains, they get cold or needing to sleep it keeps warm or if walkng in the rain wear as a poncho and keeps water off you.

Looking good. What about chafe protection, mereside?
On this pair I didn’t bother as I wanted to check the pattern and fit, if they wear out it doesn’t matter, the next pair will have it and button fly, I think I nailed the size and pattern quite well for a trail first pair, regards Wayne

If anyone is keen to look them up in the internet, the ponchos Heym SR20 is referring to are known as “Lodenkotze” or “Wetterfleck”.

Nice poncho/Cape....
Such a thing has totally escaped me up until now...

Wool is a wonderful fabric as proven over history pre-goretex - you can have base layers as fine as silk (though not cheap), building up to thick loden.
Plant dyed wools have greater camouflage effect over chemical dyed fabrics. It's also easy to "over dye" the colours as you need.
I'm a huge fan of natural fabrics, though I do wear "modern" too.

That will be the next project on the list lol, I’ve wanted one for ages

Bought a few things from his shop in Munich over the years (they have now moved out of town a few kms) he is an acquired taste a bit cocky imo but the products are top quality, my roll up bum pad is 18 years old and gets used all the time and it looks like it is a year old, I even had it in the US on a camping trip in 2007 as my pillow.

For years I’ve been a fan or at least customer of companies supplying goretex type technical clothing for stalking and general country wear.
but, it’s flawed, pin pricks from brambles, pressure points etc, not to mention the hugely exorbitant price tags that are now attached to many such garments, the best of which, granted are good, but are rendered pretty much useless if they get damaged by pointy things or a stray spark etc.

So, I’ve found myself returning to old school tech, well, not really tech at all, wool. Keeps you warm when it’s cold, cool when it warm, keeps the worst of the rain off, it’s resistant to odour, blends in beautifully in the countryside, and is silent, what’s not to love!
from merino base layers, to one of my favourite “budget purchases which is Decathlon’s take on a Woolpower Ullfrote cardigan at 1/3 of the price of the named brand, its epic, and a daily wear, super warm, easy to vent being a full zip cardigan and lovely long sleeves and back, for £50 it’s one of my best finds.
between it and my swanni ranger shirt, they are in nearly constant use.
this week a farming friend directed me to a U.K. supplier called Herne clothing, a farmer who rear the sheep themselves, to produce absolutely stunning merino garments. They don’t have many products, but what they do they seem to do well, compared to similar such as Filson Mackinaw, their merino wool jacket/over shirt, whilst not “cheap” for a quality, British made product, it wasn’t over the top at all.
I went for their “Bison” jacket, and first impressions are awesome, it’s smart enough for the pub (chance would be a fine thing) but also feels totally up to whatever the wilds might throw at me and I can see it becoming a firm favourite for general work/play/life. I also only placed the order yesterday and it landed by lunchtime today, non too shabby service!
love my swandri bushshirt/jacket
