The really awful part is that this was predicted as early as the mid-1930s and nothing was done about it...the Vansittart Memorandum...which predicted that if the Britain failed to invest in proper defence resources that, if the Japanese attacked, that Singapore would fall. He wrote "We are incapable of checking japan in any way if she really means business". And of course we didn't. And after the Japanese attacked Malaya Churchill's ineptitude with Force-Z. It's supporting aircraft carrier couldn't continue with the Prince of Wales and the Repulse. Churchill's Admirals told him, bluntly, that if he sent them without this air cover that they would be detected and if detected they would be sunk. Not only did he ignore that but he then publicly announced he had sent them. Thus alerting the Japanese to search for, and that presence and try to detect and locate them. As a former First Sea Lord he should have known that their real value would have been to keep them secret to then strike without prior warning of their presence at the Japanese invasion vessels. The guns could, for the most part, face inland. But as they had almost exclusively armour piercing (anti ship) and not high explosive ammunition were useless against land targets.

And now Private Pike wants us to re-establish a Naval Base in Singapore? To do what? Fight the Chinese? We can't even stop illegal migrants in rubber dinghies landing sixty miles south of London. Yet Private Pike thinks we'll somehow do what, exactly, in relation to the Chinese. Fervid fantasy. He's clearly had one too many of his Mummy's rum babas. It's that and the brandy butter talking.

You have to defend the motherland first. The colonies just have to work it out themselves. Completely understandable. Its just business.

Yes, I am pro but that comes from 40 years of first hand experience of living / working all over Europe and seeing what it brings . The wife/stepchildren are German so that will keep me over here.

You spent 40 years working for whoever paid the most, while avoiding paying UK tax, and now you think you have the right to complain about what you have lost.
Word fail me :mad::mad::mad:

Well you could also argue, with fair certainty, that many of those who voted to Leave also spent forty years paying no tax. Those that in the US where they call a thing by what it is that would be known as "poor white trash".

Many as they were on Benefits because they were too idle to take the jobs that many hardworking Eastern Europeans now do here in the UK. Many playing the system by getting themselves "knocked up" to produce a kid every year or so to claim more in maternity benefits whilst at the same time gaining an excuse..maternity...to avoid taking offered work. Don't believe it.

Britain's most shameless mother? Tattooed Mandy wants her TEN kids to have FIFTY grandchildren... all to keep benefits rolling in

But, hey ho, having a friend who ran a Post Office on one of Leicester's large council estates for forty years where there are families who, from generation to generation have never worked a day in their lives what do I know.

And, of course, as BB has spent all that time abroad he's also not imposed himself on the NHS as, like many of the above, through self-inflicted health issues or tattoo removals, or had their kids taken into care when they've served their purpose of being used to avoid the mother taking on work.

I think that whoever else voted Leave, and for whatever reason, that you'll find that the majority of the great British workshy, who've never paid tax in their lives but claimed plenty in benefits, our "poor white trash", probably voted Leave. Because all the misfortune and squalor of their feckless lives is always someone else's fault but theirs.

No wonder BB thinks he has the right to complain about what he has lost.

I think you are so wrong in your assumptions. I don't know any so called white trash types, I do however know a lot of people from the far north of Scotland to the south coast of England, Most of them are middle to old age and most are or have been hard working people, howevera few are landed gentry and a lot of these people want to leave. I only know a few people who wish to remain, all are under 40.

Between one to three million Pounds a week went into that one council estate, the Braunstone Estate in Leicester, in benefits paid over the counter from the then five Post Offices that serviced it. In unemployment benefit, Council Tax benefit, child benefit of women in their 30's with four, five six kids who'd never worked since becoming pregnant at 15 and supposed disability benefit for people that everyone knew weren't incapable of work. Get yourself signed up on "the sick" then go work cash in hand at the local food processing factory. These sort of people were and are, some of them, bordering on the feral. The Blair Government alone pumped in 49.5 million Pounds in project funding above the amount going into it in benefits.

As they want with benefits . And having worked for 46years and voted to leave .i don’t count myself as white trash.the government pays out £36 million a month in Delhi. To all the pensioners there ha ha
Happy new year tom]

I agree with you about the benefit culture, I don't agree with them all voting to stay, most want to be in the EU, its the EU that guarantees them their human right!!! same with druggies etc, stay in the EU and you are better of if not working.

Not my problem their contactors
But surely Lee it is as you would be paying for the contracted job based on it needing 3 people ''3 wages'' when clearly it is a 2 man job !
Or was the man in the van only employed as a driver and as such not have the relevant EU health and safety at work related documentation to do the work the others have ?
I'd be on the phone asking questions regarding your contract pricing structure and asking why they over staffed and as such over priced the job.
Your money to waste though I suppose....

How am I getting a UK pension if I have not paid up my dues. HORNET.

By simply paying into a private pension, and no you don't have to pay tax to pay into a pension.
But if your claiming to be losing 10K a year then your also saying that now you will not get anything from the government ?
As for my comments about not paying UK tax, well I'm sorry if I'm mistaken.
But at no point previous have you ever mentioned you worked abroad while paying full uk tax and national insurance.

Neil.

Would I be wrong in thinking BB’s pension deficit of 10k is due to the currency rate GBP/ € rate falling significantly since June 2015, sliding further more rapidly after the 2016 Brexit vote?
Thereby generating fewer Euro’s if paid/exchanged in Euroland.

Obviously you have never caught chickens for a living!

Usually 1 Load per man, so 3 loads for 3 blokes, New Year’s Eve 2 blokes plus 3 blokes from the job centre for 1 Load is a very easy way to see if the blokes are going to cut it.

They took 1 look and said no way, too much like hard work!

I remember my first shift as a catcher 7 years ago was 6 loads with 4 blokes and I was the newbie, I had a wife and a new born baby to support so my priorities were to them and I got on with it.

Obviously some prefer the gravy train over good honest hard graft.

I leant upon a coppice gate,
When Frost was spectre-gray,
And Brexit’s dregs made desolate
The weakening eye of day.
The tangled bine-stems scored the sky
Like strings of broken lyres,
And all mankind that haunted nigh
Had sought their household fires.

The land’s sharp features seemed to me
This Opera’s corpse outleant,
Its crypt the cloudy canopy,
The wind its death-lament.
The ancient pulse of germ and birth
Was shrunken hard and dry,
And every spirit upon earth
Seemed fervourless as I.

At once a voice arose among
The bleak twigs overhead,
In a full-hearted evensong
Of joy illimited.
An aged thrush, frail, gaunt and small,
With blast-beruffled plume,
Had chosen thus to fling his soul
Upon the growing gloom.

So little cause for carolings
Of such ecstatic sound
Was written on terrestrial things
Afar or nigh around,
That I could think there trembled through
His happy good-night air
Some blessed Hope, whereof he knew,
And I was unaware.
