.30-06 Users

And there you have it. Let your subconscious tell you what suits you not the negative opinions of others.

i have a tikka t3 hunter .30-06 for reds. Its a very light rifle and does have a bit of a kick to it. I shoot 125g or 150g federal through it.

I have an ASE sl5 on which seems to keep it "tame".

Probably considered to be quite a light rifle for the calibre but I really like the set up, its light and nimble for the hill. so easy to manoeuvre for the tricky rests etc and doesn't break your back after 4 hours going upwards.

This is in the for sales Firearms section will leave you a lot of money for glass @£150.00

For sale another golden oldie that would suit someone on a low budget , or is tight. BSA CF2 in the hard hitting 30-06 calibre screw cut 1/2 inch

I like a rifle with a decent straight comb stock, a very consistant and light trigger (<1.5lb), approx 21-23" barrel with moderator giving an all up weight of 8.5-10lbs that is front heavy, silent safety, minimum 4 rounds magazine, drop plate or blind magazine (so I don't lose it and so the rifle isn't "loaded" with an empty mag) and low mounts. These are all considerations I would take over and above any concerns over calibre.

I built a BRNO ZG 47 to this spec and found a remington M700 someone else had. Both are 30-06 which is fine by me.

Many people align themselves to particular brands or calibres. I would suggest you look at the attributes you want and find something that satisfies these irrespective of make or calibre.
I love my fine tuned 06 zg47 above all else, can take 6 rounds and has the original trigger crisp as glass at 0.75lb.

Bloody amazing rifle! They even milled a channel out of the top of the receiver to create a perfect view of the iron sights..very very clever ...I do wish I could find a zg47 in 7x57 or 9.3x62, but will probably die before one comes for sale in the uk

There’s a nice Sako stainless synthetic 85 30-06 at holts June sealed bid auction, probably go for around £300

A very old friend of mine has two ZG47's , one in 8x64 and another in , sorry , 9.3x62 . They are beautiful old rifles and shoot very well . The zg's come up fairly often for sale out here , usually chambered in 270 , 7x57 , 30/06 or 8x57 , which pretty much covers most game we have . They aren't cheap however , and the less common calibers like the 8x64/68 and 9.3x62 go for considerably more . They're a well thought of rifle out here and have a strong following , as do most Brno rifles .

A decent mod and recoil pad - ideally a Sims Limbsaver really assists in taming recoil in the more punchy calibres especially in light Rifles like the T3.

Sadly here in the UK they are viewed much as rubbish. Its not even easy to get a smith to work on one as they make no distinction between a ZG47 and one of the much later budget models.

Lol! Not sure which smiths those are!! Crazy ones perhaps ;)

The zkk’s are utter junk in comparison.

Most smiths in the know regard zg47’s as one of the best rifles ever made, along with 21H, and 1908-1914 Mauser type b’s of course. Edit: add merkel 221B o/u DR in 7x57R

I paid several thousands for my Brno zg47, and I’d do it again!

I reckon 99.9% of uk gunsmiths have never seen nor handled a zg47 tbh

There's a picture of my Parker Hale Hussar 308 on here somewhere . A bit of a rarity , Parker Hale built the Hussar on ZG 47 actions for a very short time , I've heard less than 500 units but I've never found a solid number . My rifles serial number is in the low 300's , it is an honest 1 MOA rifle under all conditions , beautiful little rifle . I may be mistaken , but I think I sent some pics to Southern of it . I paid 400 Northern Pesos for it , I still smile to myself every now and then over that one .

Saw one at auction a few years ago and stupidly didn’t buy it. Think it was around £200

I would like to see that photo, if you can remember where it's stashed?

Thanks.

I just realized I'd hijacked the thread , my apologies . To the OP , it's hard to beat a good 06 , I've used them for over 4 decades on pretty much everything here , no complaints . As a wise man once said " the 30/06 is never a mistake " . I currently have three , correction two , I gave one to stalker308 after he shot his first White-tail ( a nice one ) with it . I'm glad you found a rifle that fits and ticks all your boxes , everything else doesn't matter . By the way , nice rifle . Welcome to the club .
