Moderator cover

Hello gents,

I was in a shop over the weekend and saw a moderator cover that cost over £70. I understand that for military use you may well need one that can withstand significant heat but I can’t for the life of me think what it could do that a £10 job couldn’t for the average stalker. Can someone here educate me?

Which rifle is it for - this one?

Suppose it’s horses for courses. I have one from an American company called Burn Proof Gear on my 6.5 because it’s used for some fast shoots. Never once had heat haze with it. But it’s rated for full auto fire.

Suppose if I was stalking with it I wouldn’t need something quite as effective having to take only 1 maybe 2 shots if I screwed up.

I use heat shrink sleeving on a couple of my moderators. This stops the glare in the scope when lamping.

Can you tell us/me from whence you sourced that Wonderous bit of kit please 'Vortex2019' as I am fed up with heat haze totally disturbing my 'scope sight picture after as few as maybe five rapidly fired rounds out of my hot loaded (pun NOT intended but happily accepted) 6.5x55Swede when shooting in competition like the "MacQueen" - which I have enjoyed immensely over the years.. I bought and installed a 'Mirage Band' but that currently only works when I am using an EXCELLENT ROEDALE Brake attached at the muzzle end as it has a purposely installed wee stud in it that helps anchor the muzzle end of the band. Have yet to find an effective manner with which to attach said Mirage Band at the muzzle end if/when I install my PES/MEA over-barrel moderator n place of the brake, and a heated 'silencer' is by far the biggest offender where a visually messed up sight picture is concerned, caused by the heated moddy!!

So, ... me getting an EFFECTIVE (especially read "non-flammable" here) jacket to tie round the moderator body when in use would be a potential 'God-send' especially if it doesn't put too much of a dent in my bank balance ...

Make, model, materials of construction and finally, dimensions if possible please 'Vortex2019'.....

ATB ....... and shoot safely.

Kind Regards,

In the past mine have had a coat of matt heat paint from a rattle can...
A guy off here used to sell a military style lace up type.

It seems a right of passage to work your way through stuff you will eventually stop using...
Much the same with diving kit people buy the kick knacks to clip on, velcro strap a spare spare knife in case the scallop puts up a fight...
I have 2 bi-pods not being used, a number of lamps etc, a SA friend brought a set of sticks with him which when he used my B&Q they went in my scrap pile...Years ago I brought on recommendation a tripod set...they skidded on some hard ground 3 times so I folded them over my nee in half...

A good friend said he can here my mod ping sometimes pushing through thick cover, his one has camo tape on, however when we all but step on a muntjac buck and it bolts barking the alarm my ping is of no consequence...lol

Hello,

here is a link to the site.

They are custom made to your measurements to ensure a proper fit.
mine came with a inner heat resistant layer. A bit like those protective socks you get over a new barrel that fits tight around the barrel.Second layer is a Nomex cover with nomex cord that ties it in place.
Have a look at the website.

People are prepared to spend 200+ on a carbon fibre bipod, 4 aluminum poles bolted together, or several thousand on a blaser that shoots as well as a 100 quid parker hale. Does there really need to be a reason?
Guilty as I bought Vipers but not guilty of the others yet ;-)
Sure you canna tak it way ye..

As an aside, please find attached 2 screenshots taken from a thermal immediately after shooting a fallow doe. One .308 round and the mod (Wildcat Evo) is as hot as........4AED188E-C0AC-4A31-82ED-BA42F0190F40.webp801AA4EC-A269-4598-ACE6-C25F54141571.webp

Guys a couple of shots equals a couple of deer, cooking mods is for paper punchers. Rap in cloth camo tape or slide a piece of inner tube over it ... you know like a condom !
