Conor, I hate to say it but BASC is going to look mighty stupid if my (one person) IOPC appeal does bring about a change in Kent policy.

I know it only has a tiny chance of success but at least I (we) the shooters are actively trying to use the legal methods available to us.

All the nice words you put on your website actually amount to nothing as wild justice has shown they listen only when you take legal action.

You are letting your own fear of failure be the only reason for not trying.
 
If any of you eat a bag of wine gums a week don't declare it on the form
You will proberly get refused your ticket as they will assume you are a alcoholic

More warm words for the members that will be totally ignored by Essex Police. Why not make a legal challenge BASC?

This is what we are all going to be up against sooner or later: (Should be understandable despite the management speak gobbledygook)

Wow anybody else seen the letter in the just issued November/December BASC magazine page 44 from GP Gareth Richards.

The last sentence, you need us to do the checks more than we need you for the income! Play nice!

Interesting letter from a GP and sums it up for me, yes we do need you due to persecution/bullying by certain police forces.

Obviously Gareth has not read the November/December CPSA pull magazine where their solicitor Laura Saunsbury tells readers if the GP charges you more than £60 go have it out with them, I am sure that would go down well, with Gareth and the FEO.

Come on BASC (and CPSA etc) time this bloody mess was sorted out, respond take legal action against either the Home Office or one of the non aligned Police Forces. As clearly the GPs don’t like it any more than we do and the process does not work when the applicants own GP fails to engage in the process.

In a similar situation page 13 Liverpool council labels UK shooters barbaric, BASC say what happened but not what they are going to do about it, is legal action again not possible?

I’m just going through the new renewal process.
Letter for GP was enclosed with the info I received from police. Clear instructions in covering letter. My local GP is set up to do this. Just like insurance claim letters or work medicals, the NHS do not pay my GP to process my medical for FAC. So I pay £30 and happy to do so. GP is happy to do the paperwork.
I don’t doubt that there will be anti’s in the GP community as in any walk of life, but my experience is that the system seems fair and workable. The sky is not yet falling in.
 
I renewed my FAC about 6 months ago with Hampshire. Renewal form went in to FLO via online form. Couple weeks later letter from GP noting request for form and asking for £40. Ignored it. Set up meeting with FLO at home Usual chat and cup of tea etc. Asked for another rifle (I have 9 already) No problem. No mention of no medical form received. New FAC a couple of weeks later. Perfect conformance with HOG

I'll repeat what I've said earlier, checking a medical record takes time, time that is better spent with patients (animal or human!). Most vet's hate filling in insurance forms and the like, so I feel GPs would be the same. They have to be done with care, which means time, as there would be an issue of liabilty if something was missed.
Like JockStalk, I'm happy to have to pay a fee and feel it would make it easier if it was included in the FAC renewal fee.
For most of us it is a hobby, so I feel we have to pay.

Not for you, clearly, but the guys paying £200, the youngsters, is the new system fair and workable ? - Even when the HO said e-functionality across the piece would reduce costs, the 'police' have absolutely no interest in a fair charging system based on efficiency - they GAIN the costs no longer allocated to medicals within the current firearms fees - how long before they say we should pay costs for them - AGAIN will anyone see this increase ?
Perhaps the net additional contribution to GP's budgets of about 14£M per year, every year, makes them feel warm and cuddly and overcomes some principled reservations but without a permanent file marker, in all cases, the justification based on public safety is just simply a scam.
 
My certificates were hand delivered this week ,5 weeks early.I said I had not been contacted by the doctors and the FLO said “your surgery is awkward they refuse to give out any information”.

Refuse to give information to the police ? Clearly if that is the case then the system is well and truly broken - maybe BASC will claim the credit.

Maybe it is, but it begs the question of patient confidentiality? Aren’t doctors meant to keep their patients information confidential like lawyers?

Not when it comes to public safety and the police are supposedly the embodiment of that.

Has anybody on here used Medcert and what did they think of them? Also if not all police forces require it surely it is not a legal requirement
