A friend has very recently had a little argument (stupid he knows) with the bloke next door, police were called they removed his firearms as the bloke said he had threatened him with them, which he tells me he did not.

Now several weeks on he still has not got his firearms back he spoke to the FEO and said he would get BASC on the case, the FEO said go on then that will make no difference or speed up the return of your firearms. What BASC said to him was as normal wait longer see how it pans out etc. He was not impressed by their laid back attitude.

Sadly the voice of shooting needs to wake up and start taking a tougher approach if they want to be taken seriously by the police and government as it is they will become redundant within a couple of years when shooting as we know it today has gone.

The voice of shooting has gone mute ,a side effect of too much caviar and fois grais ,when mixed with champers the voice just goes quiet .Still as long s the subs roll in why rock the "police" boat eh.
Changed to S,g,a This year as it,s obvious BASC are rolling over and having their belly rubbed by the police for being a good likkle doggy and accepting everything the acpo or whatever theyre called these days comes up with

It's just a brand, marketed under the misnomer of 'the voice of shooting'. You only have to look at how it operates, branded badges, patches, umbrellas, stands, clothing, pens, tie pins - endless tat supported by a magazine aimed at toffs; The Glorious Twelfth (who of us will ever go grouse shooting), Taste of Game, Chelsea Bun Club.

Ugh. Such dross.

A press release here, blog post there. Guys, if you want insurance there are many other options to joining an organisation, just save your money as it is simply being used to pay someone's pension.

Be interested to know what everyone's GP is charging for their "sign off". Got my shotgun renewal in Feb 2020, (not coterminous with my FAC) and I've received the same letter as OP. Phoned my GP to confirm what they want to charge me, and they said they're going to have a meeting to discuss it, but it will be a MINIMUM of £70.

I'm in essex aswell btw.

Mine was £85.00 and have not seen them for many years.
But just hope they agree at the meeting to do the report otherwise you are open to much higher fees, or taking the police to court when they refuse to renew, which as yet nobody has had the courage or support to do.

Some have been lucky and paid nothing or as little as £15.00.

Similar thing happened to me in TVP area, BASC advice was "in my experience you'll get them back in six months", I contacted the Police and had them back in a month

No such luck yet for my friend.

Despite being released without charge, the firearms dept will look at his suitability to hold firearms in detail, from my understanding an inspector will look at his case and make a decision, the person who made the claim might be asked if they have a issue with him having access to firearms

I was having a check up as I'd just joined the surgery, the GP quite matter of factly and almost as an afterthought came out with "oh I had a letter from the police regarding your firearms, so I just filled it in and popped it back in the post"

At our wildfowling meeting last night we had a rep from Medcert who are going to start an online service providing the report for the police instead of your GP. Cost £50.

Did they explain how they proposed to have the ‘marker’ placed on your medical records held at the GP surgery they will be by-passing?

It was explained that they obtain your medical records from your GP practice (which with your consent is a legal requirement to provide) and all is there for them to write the report. The only issue may be if you have a named GP, then only they can access your file however most practices do not allocate a single doctor to a patient these days so no problem. (I have a named GP but any doctor will see me when I make an appointment)

Have a look, www.medcert.co.uk. Seems like a good idea at fair price, but I do feel the police should be paying this!!!

Just wonder how safe there servers are lol but a good way around the waiting around for a GP to the files , i know my records are both paper and electronic not all info has been collated onto there drives ,i only know this as i keep my full upto date med info updated each year myself. So i wonder what happens when others files are not electronic ,also not all doctors get updated from the likes of BUPA if you have work done without going vie your GP .
