Reply from BBC RE: Countryfile/Emporer stag episode

yes I do vaguely remember hearing the end of this radio programme, was it about 2 to 3 weeks back?

Yes, you can listen to it again here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/console/b00wlbht

Sadly I agree 100% with the rest of your post. To me it is symptomatic of an organisation that is primarily left-leaning, urban and sensationalist in its core values. Lord Reith would surely wonder what's become of the BBC - educate, inform, entertain

Bring back some of the old country programmes with Jack Hargreaves.

I agree, but that was Southern Television, not the BBC.

Mind you they wouldnt fit the modern green, eco friendly, town/city into country attitude that seems to befall Countryfile and other so called countryside programmes that seem to be the in thing these days.

Ronson Green's Extreme Fishing, Ray Mears' survival programmes and Bruce Parry's excellent Tribe are all streets ahead of Jack H and his black and white view from the shed. Even Matt Heyes's stuff on FIVE is watchable despite the massive bias towards dragging floppy carp from muddy ponds. I loved JH's Country Boy series and can still sing the song that was played over the titles, but if I was a kid growing up in today's countryside I suspect the ploddng pedestrian format would have me switching off in no time. Times change and the world of telly has certainly changed. Perhaps its just that some of us haven't changed as much as perhaps we should...:old:

i FEEL THAT WAS A GOOD RESPONCE BUT WOULD NOW ASK BASC to make sure that the person they ask to speek on behalf of the deer stalking comunity dose not hide in a corner but speeks in a clear and well balanced way.;)

Problem is that we seem almost ashamed to stand up for what we know is right. And if BASC send one of their own it is a 50 50 chance that will be a disaster. One was discribed to me as "everything the public hate about shooting".
Education of the GP is so important.

Isn't it ironic that BASC have recently had their media centre opened by Prince Phil, but couldn't find someone amongst their number that was willing to robustly defend this whole debacle on TV??

An open-media-goal unfortunately missed....??:suss:

Yes but I wonder what they are doing anyway. They were quite happy to sell the game rearing industry down the river. If you are going to defend all of the field sports you have to go all out and not give an inch. The *******s will take all they can without our help.

Mark

How dare you say that if BASC send one of their own it’s a 50:50 chance of disaster- what do you have to back that up? Nothing.

And to post that BASC ‘sold the game shooting industry down the river’ that is totally false accusation! You have no idea at all what BASC and the GFA are doing together do you? But nayway, it also has nothing to do with this thread- so if you want to take this further start another thread.

And if you want to see what BASC are doing to keep shooting safe then take a few moments to look on the key facts section of the BASC web site.

Why stand on the side lines throwing silly accusations?

By the way, BASC briefed the stalker who the BBC selected to be filmed.

As I have said they do produce some stunning natural history footage, and I also watch the programmes you have mentioned as do many on this site I am sure. BUT the BBC tend to have a very biased view when it comes to field sports and stalking, which to my mind was not so prevelant some years back.

David BASC /SIKA MALC . When you say it would get cut chopped and change so you would not advise any one to go and get interview. What i will say is if you dont send your best well educated speaker the chances are they will get a hold of some one who will only cause us problems by stutering through an interview. Nex time make sure you send the best you can get to defend our sport and sika malc i understand what your saying but the alternative is worse.

look at Vince cable a well educated individual and he got tricked.
it matters not whom is interviewed, if the interviewer is bias he will trick the interviewed into making a statement that's open it interpretation.

I for one back BASC and still believe they are /will be our best long term hope for making our sport better accepted.

BBC news said the best people at putting us down are ourselves.... that was in relation to the recent weather
I think that also applies here

merry X-mas David and all at BASC.

Your right about another thread but this is not the forum for that. I am saying that it is no good BASC being expected to do a good job on this one. I was a member for years and was very much involved with BASC. I know exactly how they have operated in the past and thats why I joined the NGO instead who now have a deer and stalking section thank god.

Mark

You are of course entitled to your views and thank you very much for your support in the past.

I am glad you are happy with the NGO boys and the new deer section, and lets not forget that regardless of the organisation (s) we choose to support we are all on the same side!

Davie I have no idea whether the individual asked to be interviewed was approached by BASC. All I will say is that he is a member of this site, he has stalked with me, and further more is a good honest man who contacted me and asked my opinion as to whether he should undertake the interview.

Due to the total rubbish hype around this particular deer at the time, I advised him to keep away as he would inevitably be tarred with the brush, so to speak. He had already made his mind up anyway, but wanted the extra advice, which I freely gave him.

He was perfectly capable of answering any questions thrown at him and I have no doubt would have done an admirable job with the whole interview. But as many people were looking for someone to point a finger at, personally I think he made the right decision.

I agree with the whole hype thing and a stag as part of a cull is just that to me and many others. But what never seemed to come across to joe public was just that fact. I feel that to have a good man talk on our behalf would have been better than the Media toss pots being able to say that we tried to intrview so and so but he declined (he might have something to hide)crap!. But there again if it had went tit,s up at the interview i might have been say what the f eck did we let some one talk to they buggers for. catch 22 to a certain extent.

Yes, but suppose at worst it goes tits up. It opens disscussion in the press and thats the only way to get our point over. Good strong argument. I think the worst thing any of us can do is sit back like we did before the hunting ban happened, take them on. The lessons should have been learnt by now but we still seem to be on the back foot. I know that the BASC and CA have media units but they seem unable to use them effectivly unlike the antis. We had them on the run during and up to the ban but seemed to have lost the momentum that was building.
