Moderator cover

Not if coated first John... left in ambient room temp to dry... some don’t even remove the mod but that’s another story .

That's when the REAL PROBLEMS come out to play, and defo NOT to be encouraged or followed in any way shape or form. I did at least remove my moderator from the muzzle of my .223 Foxing Rifle, but due to a couple of months of quite serious illness last year I did NOT disassemble, clean, dry and reassemble as per my usual post heavy session regime.

That left my otherwise really terrific Predator 8 moist inside and just full of strongly alkaline, Ammoniacal by-products of propellant powder burn. When I did finally come out of the illness side of things the Predator 8 was LOCKED UP SOLID with corrosion products,.... And do I ever mean LOCKED UP SOLID!!!.

So take my stupidity results as a very definite warning and DO take your moddy off the muzzle of your rifle after EACH and EVERY shooting outing, and DO disassemble and clean if at all possible again following each and every outing with it attached to your rifle's muzzle, or be prepared to go through the hassles I did this year, from Spring way into late Summer... 'Till You are able to get the various parts of your moddy separated and cleaned. NOT something I plan EVER to repeat I can assure everyone!!!....

But Now I should also like to get a useable moddy wrap that will keep the serious heat haze from my vision when involved in range-day competitions like 'The MacQueens', where ten shots are required to be taken at differing targets over a short time period, giving rise to much heat induced sighting disturbances!..
I currently utilise a Barrel Band that helps quite a bit with barrel heat 'wobblies' but just does not stop the heat haze interference caused by the moddy which completely pokes out BEYOND the barrel band's farthest reach...

A good moddy wrap will also assist considerably with removal of said at the end of the shooting comp', giving something worthy of a good, strong grip that won't get one's digits burnt on the still hot 'Can'....

ATB ....... and shoot safely

This is what I done on my 223 Ase Utra jet-Z firstly gave it a couple of coats silicone oil sat on a warm rad as it seems to draw the oil in, then fit a neoprene mod cover easy to find on the bay needs to be a good stretch on fit, mine cost £11.00 this needs cut to the correct length.
Then a length of good quality matt heavy duty heat shrink slightly longer than the neoprene so when you shrink it down it comes down around nearly to the spigot and around the front of the mod in a nice tight uniform finish.
Since doing this I've not issues, it looks good no problem removing the mod even after getting proper hot at a range, did get mirage when it did get really hot thou.
This is my fox rifle so other than range practice days I get that issue.

Hello gents,

I was in a shop over the weekend and saw a moderator cover that cost over £70. I understand that for military use you may well need one that can withstand significant heat but I can’t for the life of me think what it could do that a £10 job couldn’t for the average stalker. Can someone here educate me?

Tab gear are great! If you’ve got a nice rifle you gotta have nice goodies on it too

Hi 'Sea trout'... Can you tell me the make and/or model of that £70+ moderator cover please? I need something to cut down (hopefully a lot!?) on the mirage I am getting from my moddy on Club Competition days when a lot of shots may be fired with not a lot of cooling time between each..

Kind Regards,

I have shot PRS competitions over the last 12 months using my muzzle mounted mod. Much like McQueens each stage is 10+ rounds under the clock.

I use a Cover from Home | Praesidia Rifle Accessories

he will make it to your requirements. My mod is 170mm long and cost £35. It uses heat resistant materials and gives up nothing to the American made products.
