BASC to remove "Legal Expenses Cover" wef 31 July 2020

And out of how many people who have domestic house insurance have, each year, their house burned down? 1 in 1000? 1 in 2000? Help with the police if you, BASC, are not prepared to ultimately back up your members in the courts up is like having a nuclear deterrent with no means to effectively deploy it. And the police will know that if they refuse, and the individual is a BASC member, then it's all bluff as there's no means then actually to put it before a Judge. Or, as some might put it "all fur coat and no knickers".

"Q: Will this decrease the cost of membership?

A:
No, the cost of providing insurances as part of the membership package is approximately £13.50. The cost varies each month depending on the size of the membership and of course at renewal when the annual premium is calculated. The rest of the membership subscriptions goes to the running of the Association and all the additional activities we undertake like judicial reviews for example. Partial refunds will also not be given for the reason stated above"

So are you saying cancelling a part that costs nearly £1million doesn't introduce any savings?

The significant increase in the cost of the LEI would increase the approximate cost greatly and impact our financial resources to enable us to provide all our current services.

Or could this actually be interpreted, by some, as to "continue to directly employ at Marford Mill as many people as we currently do on the salaries and benefits that they presently enjoy"?

I always opt for legal protection in my insurance policies as have had use it before and certainly couldn’t have fought my case without it! Given that ,when I renewed my membership last Dec, legal protection was one of my deciding factors I’m raging that BASC have simply ‘decided’ to remove this cover half way through my membership period!! They undoubtedly have some pathetic clause within the small print allowing this to happen but when I agreed to pay them a fixed annual fee it was on the expectation that the services they claimed to provide would be honoured. Given the shambles that has been made over local wildfowling & now this.... in the words of Duncan Bannatyne... I’m out!:mad:

Beat me to it ! Sorry but the "we" has nothing to do with Officers , excepting writing the recommendation - all decisions are taken by Council members - aren't they, I thought officers didnt vote? Perhaps its the royal "we".
So a policy which gives 75 (ish ) members legal cover costs £1M - I'd find another legal firm that's more realistically priced, but hey ho, probably too busy doing something else - like lead.
To me this signals a drop in membership and cost cutting. Much more sensible to do the day job better and because of that, increase membership.
Sorry, just ignore my comments.

It will be interesting to see in 12 months time what effect this has had on membership numbers or if people are daft enough to carry on supporting a failing organisation regardless.

But it wasn’t basc, it was the council!!!🤡

Anyone yet worked out how much £13.50 for 150,000 members is - I get nearer £2.025 Million so, not knowing which figures are accurate, its either a saving of £2 million or someone has exaggerated the cost of legal cover per member.
However, if some, the cheaper legal cover, is retained as part of membership (perhaps half a million cost), then its cost cutting, perhaps rather this than staff ? Why don't some BASC members ask these questions of BASC - perhaps because they get one chance per year formally, at the AGM ?

Just ignore my comments.

Disappointing to say the least.... especially after the lead shot fiasco. BASC better start to fight a lot bloody harder against Wild Justice and all the others who seek destroy shooting by legislating it out of existence. I'm not paying £70 for a self-indulgent magazine and a car sticker.

Agree with the above.. Just looked at the website of CPSA and same sort of money as BASC 👍🏻
You say that they didn't add their name to the list of anti lead gang, however are they doing anything to combat the change to non tox or just letting it ride ? I don't want to be burnt as well as scalded if I jump
Cheers Jimmy
So let me get this straight ..... it’s taken THIS to make you think of leaving them ??
