Hi all, quick update, got a replacement pair, but after one week of use in the field:

I have no time to bugger around with returning them (took more than two weeks to get the replacement pair) so I will be looking elsewhere next year.

Would advise others to do the same, stay away from Meindl Dourve Extreme
Something doesn’t look right with your ‘version” of this boot/model

My first pair of meindl’s lasted about 10 years - picking up 3 days a week and stalking 2-3 times a week for much of that period. Cracking boots. I replaced them with the same and the difference in quality is unbelievable. After 1 season you’d be hard pressed to tell which were the oldest! The leather drier out and cracked despite being treated regularly with meindl product. Like others, I’ll be buying something different next time...

Wonder what the hell happened, outsourcing of production or cheaper materials/'streamlined' assembly?

I think they still are made in Germany. My guess is a higher degree of automation in the production. This is probably the only way to keep manufacturing in a high cost country such as Germany.

The solution to Meindl problems?

These are strong contenders for my next boots.

That's such a shame. I've always had really good use from Meindl boots. This thread has put me right off buying them again.

By the way, HIS have always replaced stuff for me without quibble if I have ever been dissatisfied. One of the UK's most professional retailers in my opinon.

They are OK if the item is something they actually hold in stock but look elsewhere if they say 'We can get them in for you', nearly 1 month wait for a pair of size 12 boots but the smaller sizes were in stock?

From now on I'm just using @R. Macleod & Son as they give you straight and honest answers, few know they do footwear, clothing, hardware and building supplies as well (unless you have been to Tain!).

If you count the pennies the price might be a few pennies or pounds more compared to HIS but I am done using my own time (and money) to sort problems the retailer should be able to handle. Willing to pay for better customer service and help keep smaller brick and motars open as some wholesalers are just clueless.

I've only ever had great service from HIS.

Always lovely to pop into Macleods too. Top-quality, knowledgeable service. Also, where else can you buy both a Swaro DS and an ironing board at the same time...? :thumb:

I have a pair of Harkila boots which are about 12 years old. They get worn a lot, especially for deer handling as stags standing on your feet are bloody uncomfortable unless you have decent boots. 2 years ago the sole peeled off around the toe area on both boots, quick brush off of both surfaces, liberal application of super glue, press together and hold for a minute, still solid now. But I am a mean bastard and would never pay more than £100 for a pair of boots!

My pair don’t look that bad even after 5 years of torturing abuse - not cleaned or treated well but worn daily.

You should be covered by consumer goods act - 28 days from purchase (that could start from when you got them) and you may be protected by your credit card if you bought them on one - maybe worth a read up on a consumer related website like “WHICH” or money saving expert.

However I would expect the company you ordered them from to be helpful in resolving the matter.

Contact the seller, explain that they are also failing and ask for your money back As this is the second pair that have failed. Simples. if you cant be bothered to post them then sling them in the bin.

Hoping the employer will accept a request and justification for a pair of the new Crispi boots, despite being a stupid orange they seem to have good reviews.

At the best part of £4-500 you would hope so!
