So now that we have completely left the EU...

So 34 pages and only comments are that I should go and shoot myself. What a great example for the rest of the shooting community!!

Don’t worry about me - yes we will find a way to continue, but there will be lots of livelihoods sacrificed on the bonfire of Brexit.

On the plus side if you do shoot yourself you can go into the crem playing the European Anthem and draped in their flag. One might say it’s symbolic both you and the EU going up in flames almost simultaneously.

Interesting, unfortunate and somewhat superficial.

Anyway, thanks for satisfying my curiosity.

I wouldn’t want to discuss politics; bring on the stalking stories.

I did wonder whether that was the reason. A couple of weeks before Before Christmas, I ordered a metal wine rack off the net (UK website) which turned out to be shipped from Germany. Nothing turned up for a while - not a problem, being Christmas and all. Then a week ago, I got an email saying it would be up to six weeks before it turns up.

Now I suspect I could get another email potentially saying it can't be delivered and offering me a refund.
The saga continues.

23 Nov. Wine rack ordered online and paid for. Delivery in three weeks.
7 Jan. Email saying there were delays due to Brexit. Delivery in three weeks.
22 Feb. Email saying they can't deliver within the time limits. (No sxxt, Sherlock, I'd sort of worked that one out). Delivery in three weeks.

It's been three months now, so I am kind of committed to waiting for this thing now!

I purchased some medicinal supplies (b12 ampoules) from a German company a couple of weeks ago. The buying part online was easy and the stuff arrived about six days after my purchase. There was a note inside from the company giving an assurance that there would be no issues with sending these items in the future and thanking me for my custom. They are a company like any other who just wants to do business and market forces will, I expect, ensure that it happens, despite all the doom-mongering from certain sections of the community.

Update:

12 Mar. Email saying the wine rack is on its way, giving a tracking number. Tracking website (GLS) says:

The parcel data was entered into the GLS IT system; the parcel was not yet handed over to GLS.

This job doth prolong itself - 3.75 months and counting!

You can't imagine the mental trauma caused by seeing my (dwindling) bottles of wine stored in such an undignified way - cardboard boxes lack a certain aesthetic. Maybe I should sue for compensation.

Get vaccinated
Not sure what the relevance is but been done once thanks - Pfizer. Didn't stop me fretting about the wine rack though.

I would say this lack of delivery thing has been niggling me but apparently we can't use that word anymore as it could be construed as racist. o_O

Well, the Brexit wine rack saga is finally over.🤞 The sad history is as follows:

18 Mar. DELIVERY! And it is the right one. And there was no extra fee/handling charge. And there was no damage that required it to be returned.

However, when I ordered the wine rack back in November, the total including delivery was:
Subtotal£74.96 GBP
Postage and packaging£5.79 GBP
Tax£16.15 GBP
Total£96.90 GBP
Payment£96.90 GBP

I am lucky I decided to buy this when I did - going on the website today, the price is £119.95 (inc VAT) plus £6.95 delivery plus a £20.00 "Export Fee"!

Not sure why the item itself has gone up from £89.95 to £119.95 (in itself an unjustifiable 33.33% increase - have they started paying more for raw materials or labour in the EU?) but slapping on a £20 export fee is ridiculous!

So if I wanted to buy exactly the same thing again today, I would pay a total of £146.90, representing a price increase of 51.6%.

And here is the object finally in situ. Now comes the pleasurable job of emptying it in order to keep refilling it. 🍷

The VAT rate for goods over £135 leaving the EU is 0%, I believe.
Yes no EU country of origin vat is added but the purchaser in the U.K. then has to pay the U.K. vat when the item arrives in the U.K., normally the courier company will collect the VAT prior to delivery.

IMHO, an EU based seller, selling goods to the UK, should not be charging VAT.
The VAT should be collected by customs via the company doing the shipping (UPS, FEDEX, DHL etc)
However, i understand that online sellers based outwith the UK and wishing to sell goods into the UK are now supposed to register with HMRC for UK VAT, charge the UK buyer VAT at 20% when the online purchase is made and then give that money to HMRC at the end of every quarter.
That might explain why EU based sellers are now refusing to sell goods to potential buyers in the UK or are putting their prices up to cover the additional administration required by their UK VAT registration.

Cheers

Bruce

Unless of course you live in Never Never land aka Northern Ireland which though part of the UK still (sort of) operates under EU trading rules sooooo presumably for me I can buy things from the EU cheaper than you lot over there. One small issue of course is that no-one will deliver to me!
Go figure.
