Game dealer not accepting lead shot carcasses

Been using Barnes ttsx in for while now and in my air rifles for longer (lead free) as we as a company fly hawks and work ferrets the ferals and some rabbits we air rifle can be fed to the hawks. Lead will kill a hawk in very little time. I’ve had it once. Fed up on a bunny that a hawk caught unfortunately it had been pricked with some lead shot (shotgun) and the hawk ingested two pellets. It died 2 hours later!!!!
I even use lead free 17hmr now as well. Apart from cost I’ve found no difference in meat damage and accuracy. Although they need to be driven faster. I use factory mainly some homeloads if desperate but I’ve just collected 180 creedmoor and 140 .308 and the same in .30.06.
my foxing is a v max .243 but when I’ve used my rounds up I have then I’ll change as well. Given that most (not all) but most foxes are thrown in a hedge etc after the event this could lead to secondary poisoning to scavengers eating the Carcass
Ah totally agree.my brother is a falconer and only takes steel shot pigeons. He too uses his birds for buisiness

All ours are head shot I have asked that question about how would dealer or the vet know if shot with lead, I was told that blood / tissue sample could confirm, I sceptical on that though, but will go non lead if told by the estate.

Mines been lead free for about 6 months
Was you experimenting with lead free prior to this or did they give you warning in advance
Rigby's by chance ?
I was just wondering if I was the last to find out Paul.

Most hares around here carry an odd pellet from a shotgun , pheasant mostly carry at least an odd one after Christmas and they also get sick from lead just not as fast when its not in thier crop .

if they dont want lead shot deer, any one lying to them would be hurting us far more than a lead ban, wether they can tell or not is irrelavant, our integraty is all we have, if we lie about lead the implication we could lie about disease sign is only a small leap. please guys dont spoil it for us

Those are a rumour, show me one and I'll believe it.

Waitrose will be using these sorts of things. They've said that they do. And they monitor their supply chain scrupulously, so I daresay that if they find any lead at their processing stages they will be able to trace back to where it came from.

BTW, they only use farmed deer, because the wild stuff is too inconsistent to meet their standards.

They are the UK's largest retailer of game meat, and ready meals.

Some actual science, by the way, read these through and form your own view. Not that it matters, because, later or sooner, lead shot game is going to be unsellable, so best to start planning for that. The AGHEs already are.

These skipped the game dealer but mine hasn’t mentioned lead free I guess primarily as his clients haven’t asked for lead free either .
its coming and I have a box to try properly

How would dealer tell the lead shot carcasses to refuse from the non lead to accept?
You can clearly see the difference between a lead shot and non lead shot deer when you are skinning it, it’s obvious . If someone deliberately dishonestly fills in the deer label , I personally think that they are not fit to hold a FAC.
kindest regards, Olaf

I've never willingly set foot into a Waitrose and don't plan on doing so anytime soon, their clientele tend to put me off.

So why should someone who shoots wild deer and does not sell the carcass be subject to legislation banning suitable, reliable, accurate and humane cup and core bullets?

You can? I've never used copper, so I have no idea. What's the main difference? Less bruising? More? Cleaner wound channel?

I still have a couple of hundred Sierra softpoints to use up for my .270, as well as a box of 180 RN for my .308. I've decided to give serious consideration to moving to copper once stocks have run low though, even though I don't sell to any dealers. I just think the move to copper is inevitable at some point, so we might as well suck it up

They have a sort of woke halo around the carcass, apparently.
