level 2 expiration

Quick question about completing DSC2. You have 3 years to complete it. Is that complete or submit?? Reason I ask is a guy wants me to take him out for a CW stalk but he only has til 5th May before his time is up. If the expiration date is the final submission date then he better hope we get lucky tomorrow or I reckon he's about stuffed.

This little exercise is also a perfect summary of both sides of level 2. I know people get ripped off but this fella has left it until the last month of his portfolio to get his last 2 stalks in. He asked a mutual friend who put him onto me and another mate. The other mate has charged him £50 an outing for 2 outings (on my mates ground) that have turned out blank. I took nothing (yet)from him for a succesful trip on my ground. He is now all over me to get his last stalk succesfully in the last few days. A cynical soul might think he wants to exploit my good nature rather than part with any dosh. As it stands I dont fancy him getting out with me again after tomorrow evening :suss: .

To make matters worse we have already shot the dumbest deer in Yorkshire so I'm not sure if he can get that lucky twice :( ;)

If he has left it this long I would be asking if he has enough experiance to pass he my find his assesor takes the same view. also he has to show you he is capable.if deer have to be that dumb for him it is no test of his ability.I have been in similer position myself before now spent all day from 7am to 7pm and never even got a deacent thankyou so I am very synical.:suss::old:

I'm afraid some people will always seek to take advantage of kindness.... they see it as weakness !!!!!
Regards
Dave

Being in the loop on this one.. hes not come to the end of the 3 years, hes coming to the end of the 3 years + an extention already.. dubious reasons were given for extension.

I have been at the end of thankless souls who are to will to exploit you because of your good nature. For me its no more and the genuine guys will now suffer. CHARGE HIM!! Unless you think your time is worthless.

He would have shot a roe buck the other morning and a very nice one after it was pointed out to him then he proceeded to f---k about until it dissapeared he would appear to be clueless i would not pass anyone who has so little idea ! He would not even have seen the deer unless it was pointed out to him fail fail springs to mind untill they come back having done some more training etc You should be charging the same £50 outing not many people offer free stalking and chuck in level 2 assessing

I think you know the answer to that NO i did he had no money the others got their own !!!!! And id never met the chap till breakfast im to kind for me own good i wonder how he got on today the thread starter was taking him out today i believe ?

think its this eve by the looks of the OP. Good luck to Shooting duck dog.. i wouldnt want a verifier calling me asking me what i thought of the individual!

He should have done a lot more stalking before he even thought of applying for level 2 after all even if he gets one he's not forced to pass !!!!!!

The joys of being an AW. As I said earlier if hes gone three years before compleating then why is he doing it:suss: is it so he can lease ground and fleece others it is certianly not becouse he wants to go stalking.sounds more like we would be better off without him stalking.

I am all for helping others and will help anyone genuine but dont take the p.....

You could be a little bit unfair here
there are many I know registered for L2 but are not in the position to complete such a task
in the last 3 years there have been a lot of changes to lifestyles and budgets since they registered
can't answer for the OP's situ but there are plenty who hav payed their money and now realise that they need to complete as they can't afford to waste it even thou they can't afford it

Ihave had my level 2 portfolio for 18mths now and still not done one witnessed stalk.I have been shooting deer for 30yrs so not clueless.Just way things go sometime.Have tried to arrange stalks but either the witnesses have been busy when i am available or i have not been avavilable when there is a slot.At the moment work is dire and i cannot afford a witnessed stalk. When you look at the cost of a stalk then the fact you may have probably only 1 in 3 successful stalks probably at best, the chances are it can quite easily cost you 9 stalks or probably a lot more. The cost alone can be a big factor let alone the unpredictability of deer and the time it takes.I thought 3 years would be ample but when you talk to the BASC they will confirm that many people run out of time
I have till a year November and unless work picks up i can see it being a struggle to complete.I can see me running out of time in which case i can see me forgetting the whole thing which is a common scenario

point taken STONE but did you read my first post on subject THANK YOU FOR YOUR EFFORTS to say thet does not cost anything Except manners.

Sorry guys but I didnt want to get personal with this!! The original question was to do with wether you have to submit or finish the stalking by the expiry date, the rest was a bit of a rant.

RDR I suspect the guy is not the same one as you have had experience of.

Got to agree with this 100% doesn't seem to me as a bloke I'd want kicking around with a high powered rifle on his shoulder. Surely his comittment to stalking should be taken into account. He's not displaying this in my mind if he's already extended the 3 yr period... I'd be stearing well clear to be honest.

Not usually part of the job of an AW................ but completely agree with your thoughts.

I would like to try to steer this thread a bit now as it raises an interesting question or 2. As far as I am concerned a Level 2 stalker should be safe and able to "process" a deer into the food chain safely and hygenically. As such if I take someone out (as a CW for the few remaining that are entitled) and they safely shoot a deer (no matter how many they dont see or bump), the gralloch is then correctly carried out (no matter at what speed) and the deer lardered correctly thenproviding they answer all the questions then that is a pass?? Is it a valid part of the assessment to compare them with your own stalking ability??? I can see no real problem with someone being level 2 if they are a poor deer finder as long as everything else is in order????? (this question no longer relates to the guy previously refered to as I believe he will not get level 2 as he will not manage to shoot another deer in the next week)
