Bullets or Heads. "30-06" or "30 ought Six"

Just for S###S and giggles. Why do some people get out of their prams when a bullet is called a head, everybody knows what it is and nobody (except Prince Charles maybe) speaks the queens English properly. Also why on earth do some people say "30-ought six" when they are not in America or even Americans.

It's interesting to compare these two things:

On the one hand, you're wondering why some people are displeased when people deviate from correct English and use the word 'head to mean 'bullet'.

On the other, you yourself seem to be displeased when people deviate from correct English and say 'thirty-ought-six' to described the well-known rifle-cartridge.

I suspect that this apparent internal contradiction is the quite common, which is why these horrible aberrations are allowed to persist despite a common view among English users of English that their English usage is entirely acceptable.
Our own deviations are entirely sensible, and only a narrow-minded pedant of the worst kind could possibly object: while those of others at best expose the users' ignorance and at worst are heralds of the end of the English language as we know it.

So " johny" the reasons are its a bullet and not a head. Its ought six because thats what it was christened by the developers. same as I presume you were christened Steve by your makers.

Because it's deliberate and obtuse incorrect use of language. The correct term is 'bullet'. The substitution of the term 'head' is not in any way, shape, or form, correct. It makes no difference whatsoever if people 'know what it means' or not. It's incorrect, end of story. Personally, I've given up correcting people as some seem to glory in their wilful ignorance and I want no part of them. Ignorance is one thing, being corrected and continuing to use the incorrect term is wilful misuse of language, and shows a stubborn unwillingness to learn from those who actually know better. Taken to extremes, I suspect this trait is largely responsible for the overall loss of collective intelligence the UK has experienced over the last few decades.

For '30-06', I'd say in English English 'thirty-oh-six' - which trips off the tongue better, in any case.

Apparently according to Wilpedia it was christened "30 Gov't 06" by Its makers "Winchester" . So Like my given name "Stephen" with a "Ph" not a "V" it got shortened to Steve. My Wife and mother in Law still call me Stephen when I'm in trouble.

It's not a 'head' its a bullet, its called that everywhere apart from a very few people who either haven't been educated or are beligerently dense or are profiteering by appealing to the illiterate.
The 'head' is a different part, at the opposite end of a round of ammunition from the bullet, it's not hard, it's that some people are lacking in intelligence.
It's a 30-Aught 6 because thats how the Americans pronounce it
I have a 30-06 and refer to the cal as Thirty-Oh-Six, because i'm English and I pronounce a 0 as Zero or Oh.

To go to a base level if you asked a young lady for a bullet she would have no idea what you want or you'd end up in hospital. On the other hand if you asked for head there would be a different outcome perhaps.
