Surely if we are going down the correct use of the English language them we have to stop saying 'oh' and starting using zero or nought……. An oh is in the alphabet, a zero or nought is a number. So a '30 ought 6' is pronounced better by those across the pond than us saying 30 oh 6.

I seem to remember it took you a while to go with aught 6 , but the boys thought it was quite endearing hearing you say oh 6 . That reminds me , I sold yours . Just kidding , I gave it away lol .
As to the op's question , it is a UK thing . I can honestly say no one out here really cares . One thing that will start a fist fight out here though , calling a magazine a clip . For some reason , certain people come unbolted over it . Personally , I don't care , I know what they mean .

Just for S###S and giggles. Why do some people get out of their prams when a bullet is called a head, everybody knows what it is and nobody (except Prince Charles maybe) speaks the queens English properly. Also why on earth do some people say "30-ought six" when they are not in America or even Americans.

I believe at the beginning of the 1900s, people used to say ought instead of zero. Thirty ought six sounds a lot better than thirty zero six. Thirty O six is wrong on all accounts, unless the O is short for ought. Just my wag.
