Suggestion to speed up FAC and SGC applications

Paid for mine two weeks ago, checked today nobody seems in any urgency to process my applications. I've no problem waiting but if I've jumped through all the hoops filled in the twenty pieces of A 4 forms , paid in advance for a service at least keep me informed where I am in the process.( not looking for any agro with applicants or firearms Service.)

My understanding is that it’s an application fee (to cover cost of processing app) and not a grant fee paid after the checks and balances are done.
Under current legislation it’ll not be a legally valid app without the prerequisite fee.
But… as highlighted payment before or after won’t change the speed of service. That’s all down to resourcing and priorities of the force in question.

Paying after you get your certificate won't speed things up. At least I can't see how. The amount you pay is a pittance to the police budget.

The only way to do it is to make firearms licencing more of a priority. Which means more staff to do them. Now that will hit budgets. But clearly falling behind and then having to scramble, but still missing renewal deadlines doesn't work. Corners will be cut when under time pressure. I shouldn't wonder if that contributes greatly to unsuitable people getting certificates and all that might (has) lead to.

Just submitted my coterminous renewals on line to North Yorkshire- bit frustrating but i got there in the end, pleasantly suprised by Doctors response - 5 days and £21 + VAT to find out that at the moment i'm ok.

The on-line form proved a challenge, I got an "error message" several times until I realised that somehow it wasnt registering the last input so I finally worked it out to re-input information and just continue to the next "error message".

Sorry to rain on your parade but I'd be surprised if your applications are dealt with in less than 5 months.

Just an update, just received a text message medical papers can be picked up today from 4pm, sat here a little red faced wondering if my Doctor is on The Stalking Directory.

I went to Dr's and paid the practice £50 for him to complete the required form as part of my initial Grant application, I then went to Firearms office in Fife, was informed process would take at least 16 weeks. They don't do online applications in Scotland!

Cambs/Herts/Beds are supposed to be doing quite well when compared nationally. I have another 2 - 3 years before my renewal. Hope things are sorted in the meantime!

I think its only proper that you pay for what you get not what you might get sometime - the latter is not my idea of 'service'.

Big mistake. You're dealing with the public sector. You pay. The obligation to pay is not linked with any obligation to provide any "service" at all.
