.308 Winchester and CCI No250 Magnum Primers

Just opened my last box of 1000 CCI LRPs No. 200 and discovered that 5 of the trays are bloody No 250 magnum primers! Sooooo - having perused t'internet and a few posts on this site it would appear that these can be used in the .308 but they are 20% plus hotter than standard, can increase pressure by upto 10k and thus loads should be decreased by a full grain initially then if desired worked up SLOWLY!
Now, being of a certain age and a year older this very day than I was yesterday, if you get my drift, I am highly suspicious of anything even remotely dangerous - call me old-fashioned but there you go.
Sooo, the big question is do I use them with a milder charge than my go-to 47gns of N140 driving a Sierra 125gns Prohunter and work up a new load - from say 45gns?
(Interestingly Viht's current website shows 43.2-47.2gns of N140 which puts my 47gns at their top end but when I found my niche of 47gns their then manual (younger members-ask your grandad) showed 45.3-49.9gns for said N140!).
Or
Bin them?

Yes, yes - I know I should take them back to the sodding RFD but it could be any one of four and I cannot remember which one - see line 4 above.

Technically, any time you change a component you should start all over again, working up from starting loads.

Almost off topic, but how come I so often read about people ending up with mixed lot components? Norma ammo mixed with Hornady, CCI 250 mixed with CCI 200?? That would be a huge issue in these parts. Are your dealers that careless about what they sell? -Muir

At roughly £10 per 100, it would equate to throwing this away...

or more!

Keep and swap with another reloader or use in a different cartridge.

Not only careless, but often clueless too... often no idea what components work well with each other and just blindly order stuff from distributors.

Have been offered a few jobs at gunshops but always declined as I don't fancy spending most of my days selling hats, gloves, shoes or jackets...

I hear that.
I worked at a huge gunshop many years ago that sold nothing but guns and related equipment. I sold everything from the most common to the ultra rare. It was a great experience for a young man. It has been suggested that I work at a gun counter when Uncle Sam is through with me but I think not for the same reasons as you. Additionally, I am the kind who doesn't sugar coat things. If a person wanted to know which 30 Carbine ammo was best for Elk he'd get an ear full and probably leave pi&&ed. I'd get fired quick. ~Muir

I may have a solution to your problem 😉

Hi. That's frustrating..
Where in the UK are you.
I use 250s in my 378 Weatherby.
Maybe we can agree something.
M.
Sadly the Irish Sea and the transportation legalities prevent us doing so but very many thanks for the offer.
