not trying to be smart but have owned, x4 220 swifts, numerous 243, x1 22/250 several 222s and x1 223, lastly a 17 rem had use of 22 hornet all to kill fox’s. Looking back I could not really say I personally thought one better than other in real time use though on paper some would appear so and make a fair mess creating new botty holes in some.
Only thing I can say with any conviction the 17 rem the most fun, enjoy the journey.

Not a .243 fan myself, but I have one as a foxing rifle (not that I use it that often). 58 grn Superformance V-Max's sailing off at 3800+ fps. It kinda works. Reynard sits down. He does not pass go, he does not collect £200. Ever. At pretty much any range.
Not my choice of stalking cartridge (I'd rather have a .25-06), but if you want to flatten Charlies emphatically with a capital emph, there ain't much better.

I agree. This system loves 58g!

From 1992 - 2010 I shot exclusively with a 220 swift , and used with ( some nights ) unbelievable results, I remember I once getting dragged out by the two local game keepers as I was there lamp man / boy 3/4 times a week for a £2.50 a night
Anyway this one particular night I was bragging that I could shoot as good as them ,
10 mins later a fox came steaming onto the lamp , one keeper snatched the lamp out of my hand and gave me the rifle and said “prove it “
I shot that fox stone cold dead , and as a reward they gave me my first fag ( yeah thanks for that ) I did pace it out and I got around 350 paces which I have tried to work out what the actual distance really was in meters using modern rangefinders keeping on Mind I was about 5ft tall at the time . My best guess is around 175 m in todays money so still not to shabby .

After my love affair with the .220 swift I went to a 22.250 ( tikka M595 I believe} it took me a couple of months to get used to it , but it absolutely stole my heart . if you only intend to shoot upto fox ( in England ) and don’t mind maybe having to replace the barrel in your life time then go for it. It’s just a really easy calibre to live with , easy to reload for , very forgiving and a very cool calibre.
