What can I say……

Used one for years and probably shot it out tbh .With the advent of the .223 becoming so popular here the ammo for the .222 is hard to come by and costs more ,at least where I shop it is .

2506 AI, but only because its my light rifle

Is there much to be gained from the AI conversion? I'm currently using a .25-06 for my foxing rifle but love to tinker! Does it still feed well for example? It feels pretty smooth as a standard round.

I don't know anyone that uses a .223 , everyone I know uses or used a .22/250 or .243 including me. At the end of the day they all produce dead foxes.

Seriously ? Suppose it depends on how big a pool that is ?

Many thousands of homeloads through my old girl and still makes me smile every time I lift it out of the gunsafe. Bore now looking a bit like a funfair mirror but she still does the bizz every time. Bless.

All calibres will do it, just take the outside variables into consideration though.
Get on Strelok and do a bit of research tippy tappying.
The smaller calibres are superb for spotting the shot through NV, but stick a 20 mph side wind in and 200 mtrs can see massive wind drift (more than the hold off a couple of inch theory), this is when the runners occur.
Size with speed always helps.

Yep .243 fanboy, .223 rarely gets out of the cabinet now, but am considering a 22 hornet for close proximity work.

Mind you I don’t just use the 222, mine wears a Photon and does its job nicely.

You must lead a sheltered life.
I will admit that the first dedicated fox centre fires I came across. Were 22-250’s belonging to the grouse moors. They were the cartridge of choice.
However in recent years and if Faceache is anything to go by. An awful lot of people use 223 rem for some reason in a Tikka T3.

So many variables, upt north, windy at den, darn sarf on stubble, anywhere close to stock or village etc, etc.
Lurv 222 and 243, but on windy old night upt north, 100 gains heap good.
Good old 243 and sound mod, pic rail for nv or thermal and day scope and wide bullet choice, plus street legal for deer.

Agree , plenty punching power. Perfect round for roe in Scotland I found , no runners with it .

No question 243, 220, and 22/250 have more authority or more forgiving if bad bullet placement but on open ground still easy to pick, but the little 17 rem with 25 grains devastates with rare exit dumping all energy into vital parts, makes good soup of vitals.

I like my 223, I set it for 200y so its point and shoot out to 250y which is a fair distance of the Quads at nigh, I must admit I have been toying with getting a 22-250 but the majority of shots are sub 200y so the 223 is more than enough,
at the end of the day if you are happy with your set up that all you need,
Just learn when to take that shot and when not to take that shot and get plenty of trigger time.
