Best smelling gun oil ?

I used to be the school (cadet) armourer. The smell of Youngs 303 was, I thought, a wonderful smell of familiarity. We used to make an emulsion of it by mixing it with water in a container and using to do a first scrub of the Lee Enfields after firing ( We had to source 1950s cordite ammo as nitro couldn't be stabilised in the throat-burned Korean war surplus rifles we had ) but I wouldn't describe it as particularly pleasant. A couple of us shot in competitions away from the Cadets and Schools offerings , and so used a couple of 7.62 Parker Hales for the occasion. Hoppes 009 was a real eye-opener. Absolutely loved the smell of that!

If you want a really pleasant/good enough for aftershave oil though, get yerself a can of GT85. It's a cracking protective oil without the de-greasing additives found in WD40, and smells absolutely divine!

From my old army days OX 18, now replaced by OX 24.
The infantry said that they could tell which trade we were by the oil smell which emanated out of our pores and uniform.

Read this yesterday and thought you were a little strange.
Had reason to use some GT85 today, seems you have a point, maybe 🤔,not going to be my daily go too though. 😂

CCL stock oil is pretty good too. Sort of leathery and woody with a hint of cricket bats and old Bentleys.
