A morning with Yew Tree

I’ve just spent the morning on the range with Richard from Yew Tree bullets measuring BC on his new 7mm TLR. Not met the chap before, a couple of phone calls, a few emails, but he happens to live 30 minutes away. He wanted some help from someone with a 7mm08 so I stuck my hand up.

I could bang on about how knowledgable he is when it comes to bullets and ballistics, but his background is more interesting. I was welcomed by a BMH and a Teckel. Good combination. Turns out he spent many years as a professional deer manager and guide in Wiltshire. Dig a bit deeper and he was F-class European Champion (or world, it was one of the two) in 2018. Another interesting combination.

What was most impressive was his passion to make the best copper bullet in the world, most ballistically efficient, most inherently accurate AND most terminally effective. His F-class background takes care of the first two, his role as experienced deer manager the second.

His philosophy is that if he makes the best product and gives exceptional customer service the success for the business will come. I think he’s bang on.

He’s a one man band, working hard to build a new business. A few of us know how tough that can be.

I’ve used his bullets for 9 months now. Just started with his TLR in 6mm having been using the original design in 7mm. I’ve not found a better copper bullet, and I’ve tried most. In fact, I would go as far as saying that in terms of terminal ballistics his bullets are now as good as any lead bullet, and his new TLR bring exceptional BC and long range ability.

Isn’t it great to have a British bullet maker who’s building a fantastic product. So much better than buying from a faceless US or European corporation who you can’t talk to. :british:

I 100% agree. He is without a doubt making the best monolithic bullet there is, period! And it's all British too.
I've seen his TLR bullets group 2" at 500yds out of a factory rifle and, as said above, they perform equally well on deer.
He's also always willing to help and advise. You can't ask for more. :british:

I'm over the moon to hear this , as he doesn't brag or even slightly allude to his credentials, which is itself is a rarity in this world.

I have his bullets in 6.5 TLR and will have the copper 224tlr and also whatever other calibres I come across.

I feel a 7mm saum in my future.....

Thanks for the great write up on him,in summary a distinguished F class shooter , with oodles of deer management experience first hand , and a desire to make non toxic bullets that won't be beaten.
That's good news for literally every deer stalker in the UK.

My only wonder would be , will he ever produce factory to satisfy the likes of forestry commission contracts?

Yep - a very helpful and knowledgeable chap - his 112gns 6.5s were the best by far in my recent foray into copper - some of the big boys‘ efforts verged on atrocious so it was great to see the excellent results of this local chap’s endeavours.
Long may he prosper!

Not quite a one man band as I believe someone else turns the bullets for him but he is a driving force in pushing lead free bullets forward that’s for sure,

Looking forward to the 7 mm TLR hitting the market!

Thank you for your help today Nigel it was great and I got all the data I needed. Data collection is easy when you have produced such consistent ammunition. An Es of 12 fps over 10 shots is some going👍🏻.
One minor correction though I’m afraid I was only the British F class champion in 2018. My best position at the europeans was 5th and I’m afraid I only managed a measley 44th at the Worlds in 2017 (was going pretty well until I cocked up the first match on the last day 😳)
In any case it was great to meet and thank you again for your support and advice.
Cheers
Rich

Lovely write up and yes really is the best copper bullets I’ve used and super guy I just hope he has the capacity to support the demand which soon will be massive I’m sure. 😀 particularly the tlr range which are outstanding

A glowing endorsement from someone who knows a thing or two about making a global success of premium products in a niche market.

Bloody good story this, you fellas should do everything you can to get YT through the growing pains of expansion (ha ha) and continued growth. Top job!

I’m looking to move over to lead-free, and definitely think I’ll be starting off with Yewtree’s offerings in .270 & .308
