I’ve just spent the morning on the range with Richard from Yew Tree bullets measuring BC on his new 7mm TLR. Not met the chap before, a couple of phone calls, a few emails, but he happens to live 30 minutes away. He wanted some help from someone with a 7mm08 so I stuck my hand up.
I could bang on about how knowledgable he is when it comes to bullets and ballistics, but his background is more interesting. I was welcomed by a BMH and a Teckel. Good combination. Turns out he spent many years as a professional deer manager and guide in Wiltshire. Dig a bit deeper and he was F-class European Champion (or world, it was one of the two) in 2018. Another interesting combination.
What was most impressive was his passion to make the best copper bullet in the world, most ballistically efficient, most inherently accurate AND most terminally effective. His F-class background takes care of the first two, his role as experienced deer manager the second.
His philosophy is that if he makes the best product and gives exceptional customer service the success for the business will come. I think he’s bang on.
He’s a one man band, working hard to build a new business. A few of us know how tough that can be.
I’ve used his bullets for 9 months now. Just started with his TLR in 6mm having been using the original design in 7mm. I’ve not found a better copper bullet, and I’ve tried most. In fact, I would go as far as saying that in terms of terminal ballistics his bullets are now as good as any lead bullet, and his new TLR bring exceptional BC and long range ability.
Isn’t it great to have a British bullet maker who’s building a fantastic product. So much better than buying from a faceless US or European corporation who you can’t talk to.
