22 Creedmoor

I run a .22 creedmoor and know a few others who also have had them built. Brass not an issue, I just use lapua 6CM cases and neck them down in a 6CM bushing die with the appropriate bushing.

I’m running the 77TMK’s at around 3400 in a 22” barrel. I’ve been told to expect 1k-1200 rounds from a barrel.

What twist barrel, and who did the work?

Been nearly 2 years..... did you manage to get a barrel chambered in .22CM? I'm going to do the same, if I can find brass.
Plenty of 6CM brass about to neck down….. unless you’re like me and want proper .22CM head stamped brass! 😂

I'd prefer off the shelf .22 CM brass, although there seems to be a world shortage right now. Don't mind necking down but gets a bit of a faff when the brass also requires neck turning.

can it do things a 22-250 cant? What is the comparison on barrel life, are the costs of running it (including barrel-a consumable), and factory ammo?
I think it's a long time since 22-250 (and 243 for that matter) was down as a barrel burner: every barrel wears out and modern steels are so much better than was the case in the 1950s. .

22 middlestead, .220 Swift etc: I'll grab my copy of Parker Ackley's 2 volume bible.

I am not against these new cartridges as they mostly bring rifles with the right twist for newer higher bc bullets or copper bullets with them. 22-250 is such a lovely cartridge just hampered by factory rifles with 12-14 twist. 243 the same issue. Waited long enough...

Time for an update. Steve Kershaw did mine. 26", 7.7" twist, 4 groove, 20mm at muzzle so medium/light profile. Rifle is a T3x UPR.

Just back from the farm following a proper zero and chrono some rounds. Seems to be speeding up by 15/20ft/sec with every shot as I gradually break the barrel in, currently just under 3400f/s and has stabilised, using a moderate load of RS62 and SR magnum primers, Alpha brass.

Multiple one hole ragged groups of 4 at 100, I had to adjust the scope twice to compensate for the increase in velocity. Very little recoil, virtually none in fact with 75gn ELDM's.

Accuracy is phenomenal, but I think that's down to the barrel. Will push it to 1000yds next weekend.

Money well spent! Don't suppose it'll be too long before I destroy the throat, but good fun in the mean time.

UK members are unlikely to provide any feedback on use of 22Creedmoor on Boar and Red deer.

Local legalities aside, a very fast moving, light, frangible bullet wouldn't be my choice for those species.
Perhaps but we shot a lot of pigs with .22-250 in Australia, some really big ones too. Friend of mine was a professional shooter and he used a .222 for everything.

.22 creedmoor would be a step up again. Personally unless you are shooting a long way I’m not convinced that it’s better than a .22-250 but it’s also not worse so if you fancy it then worth a try

Of course since Xavierdoc's comment the law has changed in Scotland, which makes 22 Creedmoor legal for stags.
Adds an interesting twist to the conversation, and makes your experiences in Australia even more interesting.

Sorry, can you point me in the direction of the law for .22 on stags

Old thread I know but I happened to watch this video the other day - kinda shows this .22 in a good light - maybe not so the training of the young lad…

Insane ballistics , only downsides would be very short barrel life and not legal for uk deer even tho they do carry enough energy

No shorter barrel life than 22-250,.unless you push the brass to the absolute max. I was getting just under 4180 ft/sec with 53gn Vmax but have downloaded to 3930ft/sec for fox etc. Also stunning results.with 88gn ELDM bullets at just over 3300 ft/sec

Like it so much I honestly don't care if the barrel only lasts 1000 rounds, it's f'ing brilliant.
