Chinese red dog

Very mixed temperament - sweet one day, and sour the next.
I’ve heard it has a spare rib

These people arrived in Qingdao Peninsula with their dogs, and after years of breeding their Great Danes and German Shepherd Dogs with local dogs, including the Shandong Xian Hound, the Laizhou Hong was established as its own breed."

Taking into account how any one of our well-known breeds (Labs, GSP, Springers) can vary hugely from one strain to another I would be cautious of any advice on a very rare breed.
Thanks for all responses so far, am quite interested in it’s hunting ability or lack of it, though appreciate in a rare breed it may differ greatly from animal to animal. Am aware of their loyalty to family and owner and they are rated as good material as protection dogs ( not attack) also Chinese army work them for various needs.
Definitely not lacking in brain and reasoning power really wanting to know if they have a good nose and off switch, was hoping someone may have experience or dabbled other than pure pet. Edit does not have to uk related.

One thing you and I agree on.
There are breeders in Leicester that train and work as protection dogs.

In all seriousness. When I was training, selling and exporting dogs I was moving in circles of Europes dog dealers.
I know that Holland and Belgium sent lots of Malinois and Dutch Herders to China. If their own grown talent was so good why bother buying from outside?
Mixing in Great Danes and Chinese breeds of which I own a Chow Chow is only going to create training difficulties. But I do also own a Malinois x Dutch Herder.
I would beware of Gucci dogs. They have more to do with breeders charging top dollar than benefiting the world of working dogs.
It’s like years ago there were loads of German Shepherds coming in from East Germany and the Czech Republic. People would say that even if it’s a **** dog people will think it’s good because of where it has come from.
If you want an incredibly driven dog with a hard edge then get a Mali or a Dutch Herder or even a working line GSD.
As for tracking, I would echo what one of my old trainers used to say. All dogs have the olfactory ability to find humans and dead animals. What separates all these dogs is their mental focus and desire.
