Chinese red dog

A key ingredient for “puppy noodle soup” methinks.

You have to make it with puppies as older dogs are quite tough.

A good friend lived in Japan and Vitnam for a while. My hound when she was a very little puppy left a present on the kitchen floor. His wife told her, in no uncertain terms, that in china and vietnam “puppy noodle soup” is a favourite dish.

Seriously though, dogs are generally biddable and can be trained to use their nose to find things. Amazing the sorts of mutts that search and rescue or police search end up using. Its much more to the temperament of dog and temperament and skills and patience of the trainer.

What strikes me most days when I the dog for a walk in the city where I live is how poorly trained most dogs are. There are certain dogs - either collies or gun dog types where the owners clearly work them that are well mannered and pretty well trained.

For many of us a dog is part of the family and its manners around the house and out and about is by far the most important. If the dog is biddable teaching to find a dead deer by its blood trail - which after all stinks is not that difficult. Will it be an excellent deer dog that track a wounded deer several miles three days later after heavy rain - probably not. Can it find a roe buck that has run into bracken a few tens of yards and thus saving you lots of searching - yes of course it can.

There is a guy close to me who has one.
He doesn’t use it for work but he has a mad interest in dogs and especially unusual breeds.
From what I can gather from several conversations,
He paid an astronomical amount for the pup
He has had/still has lots of issues with her aged just over 2yr old, training has not been easy nor straightforward.
She seems to be quite hardy and healthy from a physical point, but mentally not as stable as had been hoped.

From my point on meeting her, nothing special, not particularly a good looking breed imo, certainly not bidable nor steady.
I’ve seen this guys other dogs and been around them, all of which I trust, and know he is able to train dogs, but this one, just doesn’t seem to be the same.
Of course, all the above may well just be this particular dogs character, but is enough to put me off getting involved with one, and I’m used to the malinois breed !
