Sporting marksmanship course??

I’ve had mixed experiences with clubs, the rifle club I joined a few years back was a clique and I lasted 3 meetings! I will have a look for full bore clubs and see how we go!!

There’s no excuse at all for club members to be ‘standoffish’ but 3 visits isn’t a lot & it takes a bit of time to get to know & be known in any club of whatever interest.

Hello Lee,
If you are Cambridge based you could consider the Cambridge gun club based in Cottenham. They have 50 and 100 yard ranges. (A 200 yard range currently in the making i believe). Small and full bore.
You can get instruction and it's very friendly and other shooters are also helpful.

I completed my safe shooters course there just before Christmas and tried to get on the range Saturday, unfortunately it’s fully booked a lot of the time as you can’t just turn up and shoot

Is it an actual gun club, or just a range? I’ve not seen the 50yd range, just the 100yd and air rifle one?

The British Deer Society run range days at Euston near Thetford. Alternatively I would agree that joining a shooting club is a great idea, although they do vary in terms of the training that is provided.

Notwithstanding, that it is my club, when I joined it, I think I was expecting too much in the way of 'training' to be provided.

There is precious little - although we now have a program of introduction for probationers.

I have never been shy of seeking out 'professional' instructors in an effort to learn, just a wee bit sad that they are not members of my club.

It's a club although you can book a slot on the range without membership. Not many people use the 50yard range.

I’ve just read an article about sporting marksmanship courses and I feel as though this would be something that would benefit me!

I’ve been shooting air rifle/rim fire for years and I’ve just moved up to stalking with CF.

Whilst I believe I understand the basics, I would like to understand the detail behind the rifle and the finer points such as windage, MPBR and most importantly improve my accuracy and confidence, which has dropped off recently through a lack of rifle time!

I’m based near Cambridge but happy to travel if need be?

Can anyone recommend a course or instructor?

As mentioned above Bradley Bourner is now based in East Anglia so I’m sure will be running courses in your area now.

We, the BDS have used him here in the North of England for training for over ten years and he first class.

Last year we moved to Brad’s two day course format which he developed for a Government department in Scotland.

I’ve just spoken to Brad and due to the new role at Thetford he’s not able to assist until April at the earliest.

He'll be flat out on hinds and does until the end of their season. Worth the wait.
