Multiple rifles for deer, good reasoning ?

Morning,

1 x 7x57
1 x 12g s/s and if I can sell that I will, and surrender my shotgun certificate
Gotta say, been up since 06:00 hrs cleaning my lot again 3 shottie 8 rifles and still not finished yet, I‘ve just reduced mine a bit as some were doubled up for dedicated NV. I now use one rifle for both sights on QD mounts which have worked faultlessly I use all mine in different calibres at least 3-5 days/ nights a week, some more than others

bloody hated getting rid of 3 rifles but it was like a jigsaw puzzle getting them in the cabinets, bolts mods etc, pretty happy now it’s certainly easier and my Ammo safe does look like a Ammo safe rather than a junk store.

I no longer have to time or the enthusiasm that i once had, it all clicked for me when I shot a nice representative/ silver medal CWD buck, and I didn’t feel a thing when I pulled the trigger!

No buck fever, no shakes just bang dead and that was one of the last ticks required, just the fallow buck and thats the lot!

I thought now is the time to stand back!

Um, I have 6 Deer conditioned rifles and have just had renewal
I don't know you're background so cant really comment re personal circumstances. I know folk who have the same number and they have been refused. I know target shooters who have even more but this will become a thing of the past. If you can provide good reason and it is a good reason there should be no issue.

Why so surprised?

With a 270 it’s one calibre does all jobs, the need for multiple calibres is completely and utterly irrelevant!

Pick one and buy and one end of subject, you do not need multiple calibres to do one job if you are of the recreational stalker if you are professional/semiprofessional you will need to rifles one as a back up!

Oh, it comes down to is this, I legally can,
so I will practicality in the financial side of things, just go all out of the window!

Personally I do not belong to that, I’ve got loads of guns I’m gonna **** over them regularly club, like I said before everything, I have a practical, nothing more nothing less is there to do a job, not sit there and get looked at.
You have assumed I'm surprised, not at all. I have one deer rifle myself and it's a .270. I shoot 150 grain soft points, was just curious what Tim was using.

The great thing about having several deer calibres in the safe is pulling one out after a couple of years and its like you've just bought a new rifle and enjoy it again.

1. Blaser BBF Combination gun to shoot anything when out hunting
2. Blaser BD14 Bockdrilling to shoot anything when out hunting
3. Sauer 3000 Drilling to shoot anything when out hunting
4. Blaser K95 to shoot big stags one handed and it pack in your backpack
5. Blaser R93 to shoot any deer or rogue elephants with the 416 Rem barrel
6. Blaser BB97 Double rifle because I need a fast second shot on running deer.

Yep that just about covers it.

Ooh, you're the perfect person to ask... Do the BB97 barrels fit on the BBF action?

I've had trouble in the past justifying similar things. As always, it will depend on your force. Personally, I think that if you have a 6.5 and a .308, a 7-08 is dodgy. It sits between two cartridges that aren't that far apart. But you don't know if you don't try. If I had what you have, I'd be looking at a faster 7mm - .280/7x64/7mm Rem Mag etc. I don't see how the 7-08 will offer much in addition to your 6.5 and .308?

More deer rifles or just more firearms in general?

Why is that coming to the end? If you can show good reason (shoot the firearm 3 times a year) what is coming to an end?

The simple answer is yes, eventually. The issue is to get the forearm to snap on and the action tension to be the same. If they don't like mine the blaser gunsmith will take just a thou off the one barrel when the hinge is proud. With a little bit of work they will be interchangeable like a shotgun barrel.

No issue with the one rifle does everything sentiment. Ditto one shotgun does everything sentiments.

But for many, having and changing different rifles is very much part of the enjoyment. And whilst we have the freedom to do so to reasonable level then why not.

I like older guns, and slowly building a portfolio of fine Scottish guns. I certainly cannot shoot them all at once, but I do enjoy the process of finding, researching, acquiring. I have not yet got to disposing of many, as all my guns have different uses with different stories and memories. Whilst I only have the one daughter, I do have godsons and nephews and nieces and others who will all fight over my collection in a few decades time.
A Dickson round action 20 bore sxs,and a Daniel Fraser .270 are but a starting point..

I wonder if it makes you a better shot Lee having all these different rifles

The .243 with the Drone 10 on top is for foxes which keeps me in pigeons and deer
and the .270 covers from Muntjac to Reds same round...

Do you recon they never had many toys growing up so now make up for it in rifles...
I bet most of us don’t still live with our mum.

I’ll wager most of us don’t, I’ll also wager that some don’t have their mothers anymore, so a completely pointless comment!
I’d wager one in particular does…..

As for pointless comments, no different to you going on about people only bearing able to shoot one gun at a time. So what? Some of us enjoy shooting and owning multiple guns, just because you don’t get it, that doesn’t mean it’s not valid.

As for mothers, I’m in the latter group and have been since I was 3.

You are going to struggle to justify having lots of calibres for deer. For example no issue with having a daytime and nighttime rimfire. Again having a deer calibre for day time and night time vermin control. However how to justify say having a .243 .308 6.5 and 270 then ask for 6.5x55. It's not going to happen you can't provide good reason and the good reason aspect is what is being looked at. It's not great when you look at target shooters they have lots of centrefire and rimfire calibres.

I was granted a .308, then applied for .300wm and .25-06 which were granted. Then applied for .45-70 which was also granted. Then a 6.5 Creed, also granted.

I did subsequently sell the .308 as I wasn’t using it.

The reason for all of them was “deer hunting and target shooting”.

Then I also got a pair of .22s, a .222 and a .22 hornet, also all granted.

Reason was “vermin shooting and target shooting.”

All fully open, all conditioned for hunting and range use 👍🏻

I’m sure it is FEO dependent of course, and I don’t think one could build a collection of 50+ rifles with the same justification each time but I’m pleased to say Hampshire have always been extremely reasonable and sensible with me, for which I’m thankful for!

If you have access to deer stalking and a range then I see no reason why you couldn’t (or shouldn’t) apply for a rifle if you are keen on one. The worst that happens is they call up to ask more details and they might even say no, but if you don’t ask you don’t get 👍🏻
