25-06, any good?

"The wrong tool" in a skilled craftsman's hand can be a lot more effective than the "right" tool in the wrong hands.

There is however there are laws that we have to comply with
I do agree with that quote in principle but in practical terms I do however believe that there isn't really a wrong tool, just wrong hands.

Mainly gallery, but if i can get the grouping right may be for deer.

Shooting in Lydd and Hythe
It’s a lot of powder to burn for gallery distances and may well be above range limits.

why not get a gallery calibre?

.44 mag will do deer apart from Scotland

Have just seen they shoot gallery at 300.

Well at 300 it won’t do anything your .308 won’t do and you will struggle to find ‘target’ ammunition for it.

But if you really fancy it, why not?

Though at that range and for gallery a lever action in 30-30 might be a better choice

I have shot a few foxes with a fac rated air rifle when the opportunity presented itself when I was out to shoot rabbits. All the foxes dropped dead on the spot. However if I was going out specifically to shoot foxes the centrefire rifle would be taken. So there are tools more suited to do some work over other ones.

Again we have to comply with the law. This is the reason that all my centrefire rifles are legal to shoot all uk deer species.

I certainly understand that you have extensive law based rules to abide by in the UK.

For the last few years I've done most of my stalking with a 25-06 Rem with very good results: roe, reds, ibex, chamois... even boar. Started with hornady´s interlocks 117 gr and looking for something thougher switched to 100 gr Barnes TTSX. Like any other cartridge, but particulary high velocity ones, bullet choice is key. I think that apart from varmints, you should stay away from soft bullets such as SST, ...

Some food for thought:

Just by the number of comments, I´m glad the 25-06 is alive and kicking!
