Tyres - Michelin Crossclimate 2 SUV

I am looking at the Michelin Crossclimate 2 SUV to fit my Touareg Escape. It runs 18 255/55 tyres.

Use - 95% plus is on the road and a lot a long distance motorway driving. I want a tyre that is good in wet and snowy type winter. But also good enough on hill road, forestry track type stuff.

I am NOT needing huge great nobbly offroad General Grabber type tyres for mud plugging or hauling trailers full of cows out of a muddy field nor using it to retrieve a stuck quad on the far side of a Scottish bog.

The Crossclimate2 SUV seem to be well reviewed, give plenty of grip when needed and are winter rated. Not as good as a full winter tyre, but technology of the crossclimate2 seems to have improved hugely, so they are not far off in full winter, but much better all round, in particular on fuel and tyre life.

Any body any views before I spend the money.

Used to have them (car not SUV version) on my Mondeo. They have noticeably more confidence on snow and ice (not black ice mind) than summer tyres. I also thought they were a bit better on grass or unmade roads.

I’ve since started using “proper” winter tyres and they are a bit better but there’s not a lot to call it. When I replace the car, l’ll probably go back to cross climates - particularly as I now have a truck which will cover when it’s really bad.

They're a good choice and not too expensive. I had the previous version on my Subaru a few years back and they offered decent grip all year round.

I wouldn't expect loads more grip over other road tyres on muddy forestry tracks etc.

I am pretty sure I have had these on a vehicle before and although they were great on snow and ice on road they were. Ot great with mud at all. Forest teack should be fine. But sticky mud even in flat fields they were not great.

i run them on my transporter 4motion , i think they are a great tyre probably about the best compromise when you are predominantly on road , quiet and grippy

They're a good tyre what will deal with all weather found in the UK quite happily. Will they be any good off road? No. Will they handle forestry tracks? Yes.
Another one to look at is the Goodyear vector gen 3. Similar to the Michelin but a little better priced and deal with lots of standing water a little better IMO. I've just put a set on my van ready for winter as they also work well in snow/Ice... Like, really well 😂

Brilliant tyres. Had them on a Tiguan and Seat Ateca and now have a set on my L200. Quite, low wear rates, good in all road conditions and surprisingly good off road.

I hear the cross climate are good tyres. If you wanted another option, one I've tried myself, then the Yokohama Geolander A/T tyres are great on the road and in snow etc. plus they might offer a little bit more on tracks than the cross climate and so might be worth consideration. They aren't a chunky A/T sound would suit your requirements.

The Pirelli All Terrain Plus tyres are also really good, the best A/T tyre I've tried, but I don't think they do them for 18 inch rims, worth checking though as, again, they will give you good on road and snow performance with surprisingly good off road performance as well.

I'll second that. They will also offer more protection over a road tyre due to the heavier tyre carcass when on forestry tracks. Nokian have also released a new AT which looks like it will be brilliant for snow/ice

I've had Crossclimates and found them to be pretty good in all conditions. I'm currently running Goodyear Vector 4 season, I don't think there is much between them although the Goodyear's have more sipes so maybe better off-road. 🤷They also came with a 5 year warranty from HiQ. FREE Accidental Tyre Damage Warranty

I’ve got them on the wife’s Tiguan and I’ve got them on my golf both SUV and normal excellent
Good economy and good on snow

Thanks Gentlemen- looks like the Crossclimate2 are a good option and they 75k mile warranty on them as well.

Goodyear vector 4 seasons for me; exceptional in the wet & very good in the snow. Will be putting a set on my other car as soon as I can afford it but I’ve been using them exclusively for the past 5 years on a smaller suv.

I think Cross - Climates are the best all round winter and summer tyres you can buy for mainly road use. Been OK for modest off road use too on my Suzuki Vitara. Just replacing my fronts on Monday. Not heard of a 75k warranty - the tyres will never last that long and I don't think are intended to.

Have a look at Pirelli scorpion verde all season all terain over 60k miles on a Landrover discovery sport does muddy fields and farm tracks no problem had to push a toyota pickup off the same field fitted with bfg my car had sunk in over the rims drove out no problem

I had 2 sets of cross climates on my Touareg escape in that size. 16/17k and they were near legal limit ( spirited driving). Got noisier for last 5k.
I switched to continental ATR and actually quite a bit quieter, wearing well and grip as well in all but the wettest weather.
Asda were cheapest and had a cash back sale when I got mine
