Co op Bank blocking payments to firearms dealers.

if you have ever watched the series " the boys", butchers famous phrase describes the co-op very well.

The Co-op flatly refuses to stock any product containing game meat, it will be a cold day in hell before I set foot in one of their stores or use any of their other business products.

@Conor O'Gorman
one for BASC's list?
Thanks for flagging this. I will contact @Shrike by PM

As regards Co-op Bank its ethical policy is here:

This states that "We will not provide banking services to any business or organisation that infringes animal welfare standards via...., blood sports (e.g. the use of animals or birds in sport to catch, fight or kill each other)....."

That policy does not cover shooting, ie. it is not a breach of their policy to have a Co-op bank account to run a shooting related business or to use your personal Co-op account to make shooting related transactions.

Surely if they are refusing banking services to law abiding businesses and organisations then they are prejudiced against them?
If they were refusing services to businesses owned by black people or gay people there would be hell to pay!
But no….it’s ok to be prejudiced against people, based solely upon their hobbies and interests.

Businesses are not obliged to offer services to everyone, there are countries that we don’t deal with because dealing with their population is just not worth the aggro, mostly ‘bartering cultures’ it’s in the company’s gift to set their principles.

The banks do need to be more accountable for their decisions, and we are not the only sector affected, and this the focus of the FCA banking services review that started last year, and that BASC has been submitting evidence to.

The problem is ESG and the government wanting every business to have policies. Damned if they do etc!

I suspect its a wider issue than just field sports, there will be other activitie/parts of society that they will ban. Nigel Farage had issues in the past.

I'd have transferred my balance and closed the account in the same phone call. There's enough banks out there, as well as the likes of Revolut etc.

Bought a gun using my watch and the guy remarked at how easy it was a dangerous to potentially spend large sums without really realising. I think I made a comment that you wouldn't want to wear such tech in a strip joint

Withdraw all your funds from Co Op and put it somewhere else. Or withdraw the cash and pay for it that way.
Banks, they are a law unto themselves, boils my p.ss. Wasnt it the CEO of the Co Op involved with some kind of scandal some years back?

Use cash, it beats any bit of plastic.

Perfectly said ^^^^.
Unfortunately, we are sleepwalking into a cashless society. And when it eventually arrives in the form of a Central Bank Digital Currency the government will have the ability to control your spending like never before, and they will know your every move :scared:
That last bit is already true, ANPR cameras , Mobile phone masts, some apps on mobiles.:-|

Personally I think the bank any bank has no such right to decide where are or how I spend my money that I kindly let them hold on my behalf whilst they make a profit out of my money for themselves in doing so.

it’s discrimination.

I would close the account with co-op and let them know why.
When you deposit money in a bank, it becomes the banks property. Not yours.
