Co op Bank blocking payments to firearms dealers.

That last bit is already true, ANPR cameras , Mobile phone masts, some apps on mobiles.:-|
Yes, but if you hop onto your bicycle and go to the local town shopping and use cash you are fairly sure that your privacy is intact, especially if you wear some type of face covering.
Imagine the day when your only option is to use a CBDC :-|... you will have no privacy at all. At the moment with plastic transactions the contract is broadly between yourself the bank and the trader, the government is not privy to that information.

Withdraw all your funds from Co Op and put it somewhere else. Or withdraw the cash and pay for it that way.
Banks, they are a law unto themselves, boils my p.ss. Wasnt it the CEO of the Co Op involved with some kind of scandal some years back?

Use cash, it beats any bit of plastic.
For small amounts yes cash can be the solution. However there are legal limits on the amount of cash that can be accepted for a transaction , it's all to do with anti laundering laws.

My wife worked in the internet banking department of one of the big banks and would have to report so called "suspicious" transactions almost daily. Often these would be accumulative amounts rather than a single payment that exceeded the set limit. Occasionally she would get feedback that indicated that her reports proved to be justified.
She too got rather annoyed when the bank she worked for once or twice refused to process payments for legitimate firearms purchases from RFDs but explained to her managers that these were perfectly normal and absolutely legal. In fact I once fell foul of this discrimination myself.

She once asked me if I had heard of a particular RFD based in the south east who she regularly spoke to. I said that I did know of him. Obviously she never discussed her dealings with the chap as that was strictly confidential but she did comment on what a thoroughly nice gent he was to deal with and sympathised with him having to try and resolve obstacles thrown up by the banking system fairly frequently.

Let’s not forget that this is the same bank who made a Methodist minister chairman - Paul Flowers, remember him? He was caught in a sting buying crystal meth, then his rent boy released various text messages from him asking if said rent boy wanted to come round and do some cocaine and ketamine and also discussing the possibility of another colleague getting in on the action for a threesome. Convictions for performing a sex act in public, indecent exposure…..

There more much more but I couldn’t believe it with such top management that the CooP bank shortly after crashed.

So we are lead to believe... or is it just an excuse to push everyone into doing transactions that are easily traced and accountable? Currency has become a "dirty" way to pay for goods, if you want to pay for anything above a £20 basket of shopping with paper money you must be on the fiddle and avoiding tax

PayPal can be a bit awkward too, re firearms / products.
Yes my PayPal account is still frozen. I was told that they are a foreign registered bank, registered in Zurich I think. They will not unfreeze my bank account until I send them photo identification. Proof of my address.

Do I really need to send my I.D. to a foreign country for them to have and do whatever with……NO.

I mainly used Paypal for buying air gun pellets /cleaning kit/ shotgun/rifle bags and other ancillaries from EBay.🧐🧐

There is no money in this account and they will not let me CLOSE it until I comply with their requests.
yet they can constantly update and change their terms and conditions without MY APPROVAL!!!

This reminds me of the 1980’s when I was a student and the Students Union would not accept cheques or cards from certain banks due to them trading with countries that did not fit in with the Agenda at the time.

I joined the less politically motivated “Guild of Undergraduates” .

There was no government restrictions / sanctions placed upon trading with those countries…….they were classed as British Allies at the time 😳😳

Co-op are famously anti gun and hunting, I remember some years ago (10+) they refused to open an account for a ferret club even though it was club focused on ferrets not hunting
I was going to post that. I bet it was nearer 20 years though, not used the Co-op since.

Complain to the banking ombudsman. This is not THEIR money, it’s yours. Think of the chaos when you won’t be allowed to fill up your car because it’s too polluting.

These bankers need reining in.

FYI I’m with Lloyds and never had a problem.
Exactly this 👏🏻
Don't we have ever increasing laws on discrimination in this country ?
Perhaps it's about time we as a community started to explore these rights for our benefit.

Perfectly said ^^^^.
Unfortunately, we are sleepwalking into a cashless society. And when it eventually arrives in the form of a Central Bank Digital Currency the government will have the ability to control your spending like never before, and they will know your every move :scared:

And not just the government. Imagine your health insurance company knowing every meal you ate and adjusting your premium accordingly.

I live in Austria and everything here is not perfect, but there is still a strong cash culture. Compared to visiting the UK last summer, where it was impossible to pay for some things with cash; Thames river cruise? Digital/card payments only. In Austria there’s still enough places which are cash only! And I like it that way.

This is where I typically buy lunch…..

We had a right old job getting the zettle card payment account opened. One mention of ammunition and the shutters came down. We had to prove we were a bona fide club with records going back to 1864.

Discrimination is the right word.

Thank you for reminding me not to shop or bank with them - I remember the ferret club incident so recal taking my (small amount of business away)

I use cash where I can for local business so they don’t get nailed on card payment charges !!!
And I’ll use card when it’s big / franchise type companies

I believe you get charged for paying in cash as well in a business account.

Yes you do. I used to work for a small business who often got asked if he would do ‘discount for cash’.
Given the nature of the business it wasn’t possible to hide transactions in order to defraud the tax-man and cash cost more to put into the bank than any other type of transaction!!!!!!!!

Surely not - don’t you realise he was only getting over the death of his mother?
Poor man……
