Dsc1 shooting test resit cost

A friend has recently had to resit his shooting test at a very significant cost. Is it standard practice to charge a very significant amount on top of the £25 bds fee to resit a module?

I would say that if your friend is joining a group of people who are taking the test, the charge should be the £25.00 + a nominal amount.

If a test is being specifically being arranged for your friend, then that's someone's time that needs to be paid for.

That said, there will certainly be people out there who are generous, and others, who at best, are more than happy to take advantage, and wring every penny out of it.

If your friend hasn't already retaken the test, do they have to take it with the same people, I doubt it !

Tell them to spend some time practicing the disciplines, so he passes next time.

As long as the fees that the Assessor/Range charged were clearly disclosed prior to the resit then it is entirely up to the Candidate to decide whether he wants to pay that person or look elsewhere. I used to charge £50 (not including the admin fee that goes to the Assessment Centre) and this was payable to the Estate that I worked on as I did resits in work time using the Estate Range. If I could arrange a couple of people to do the resit at the same time then I split the fee between them as it doesn’t really take much longer or any more effort to set the range up for two people.

The re test may be with a nominated business or shooting range their time doesn't come free, if its a singular and not a group re test he may have to a surcharge

Thats reasonable these days

It really doesn’t take very much to justify £100. Time and fuel to drive to the range, set things up, supervise the test, mark and complete the paperwork, pack up and drive back. It could easily be three hours out of your day and 30 to 40 odd miles at £0.45 per mile (HMRC rate which is the same as ten years ago - should now be more like £1 to £1.25 per mile).

Also its time that the assessor is not doing something else that may be more rewarding.

You wanted someone to organise a range, give up and hour or two of their time and do the paperwork and you expect it to be south of £100? Have you called a plumber recently?
There wasn't just one person paying north of 100 for the resit to put 8 rounds through a piece of paper!

Surely the easiest way is to arrange to tag onto another DSC1 course just for the Shooting Assessment! Should keep the cost well down or even free if you have a kind course provider, seen it done several times.

+1 You've pointed out the obvious solution Tony.

There is a lesson to be learned from this and that is to go prepared in the first place, with your rifle correctly zeroed and having practiced the shooting test until you become confident but not complacent so that it doesn't unduly faze you. I seem to remember that you are allowed a couple of attempts on the day.

or if you cant hit a 4 inch target, you may need to take up golf instead.

Shooting is cheap to motor cross for a ten minute race this weekend in Ashford Kent it cost over £60.00.
Then add fuel and parts and other cost my son reckons £600 with travel.
F that stick to shooting
