17 centrefire

I’ve a .17 Rem 700, I got a boat load of factory ammo with it which wasn’t very accurate, home
loads however much better (20 gr v max).
Very destructive on rabbits and flat shooting. Not to fiddly to clean either. Recoil is next to non existent too.
If it’s an itch you want to scratch then go for it. I think on balance I miss my .22 hornet but each to their own.

Had a Remington 700 LVSF in .17Rem and loved it, but when a nice Cooper came up in .17Fireball I couldn't resist and swapped. No regrets (it's definitely a keeper as it is sooo accurate) and either of these calibres has a bit longer legs than the .17Hornet, although this too is still a good calibre and probably a lot easier to find than either the .17Rem or Fireball as they don't come up for sale that often
Check with your FLO, but a slot for a .17 Centrefire should in theory allow you to go for any one of the three - good luck.

Which .17 have you got is it the fireball ? If so what powder have you gone for reloading wise?

this is exactly what I planned on doing thanks for the reply

I also have a .17rem, 700 which is my dedicated NV rig, minimal recoil, quite easy if fiddly to load for, friend has a 17fb which is really good
What moderator are you using on the .17 rem as it’s another thing I’ve been looking into ?

17 hornet savage m25 thumbhole stock, wildcat whisper sound mod. Virtually as quite as my hmr but can reload for it and far more effective to shoot. Went that way as could reload for it as was getting fed up with hmr split cases.
fortunately was able to stock up with powder and primers before the current supply issues and use the cheap krank value bullets for the rabbits.
