I was checking to make sure it wasn’t the 1st April….

Surely this is a wind up?

I’m guessing that this may be a safety template issue. In essence there’s a cost to produce a range safety template. MOD only pays for the safety templates for ammunition calibres used by the military. If you want to use any other ammunition calibre on a military range then you need to produce a recognised safety template.

this could not be more ridiculous !

this nearly as ridiculous as not being able to use .303 brit on thetford range as it's not 308

i am seriously worried about whoever is in control of these decisions and their lack of knowledge

The last time I went to a mod range
(altcar) Was when 22/250 was banned.
As I understood it it was a velocity issue not calibre one.

A story I heard on saturday, possibly exaggerated but in line with the subject, apparently when the safety template was written it was for 5.56, a unit then turned up with GPMG's (7.62) and weren't allowed to shoot as they exceeded the safety limit

The MOD has little motivation to allow civilian shooters to use their facilities. Our club stopped using MOD ranges around 10 years ago when they increases the cost significantly.
