Weihrauch HW66 - not as accurate as I was hoping!

When I got my Finnfire with its standard ‘skinny’ barrel, as well as various types of ammo I also tried about 4 different moderators with it…. including the venerable Parker Hale, an SAK and an SM2.

Ended up with the SM2 as that, along with Eley subs, gave excellent groups… still does all these years later 😊

Cheers

And you don't need a barrel bedding tool either. The easiest if you have them is a socket (as in to undo bolts on cars etc) in a relevant size just bigger than the existing barrel channel, wrap it in sand paper and run it up and down the stock until there are no high spots. Keep test fitting the stock until you can slide a note all the way to the action.
Thanks for the tip!

I've had 2 new HW66's from Sportsman gun centre and neither of them would shoot. My targets at 50 metres looked like I'd shot them with a shotgun. Tried checking all the usual suspects and multiple ammo types. Neither would shoot sub 1 inch at 10metres when tested at Sportsman's range. I put them both down to Friday afternoon at the factory guns and they both went back and my money went on a good condition original P94s where it should have gone in the first place.
I hope I was just unlucky but I totally lost faith in them.

Ironically cam2112, I only wanted one for exactly the same reasons you did.

Glad I am not the only one having issues, whatpuzzles me is I read endless posts etc about how accurate they are. I will battle on and try some of the tips others have given me on here. Failing that it will be replaced with an Anschutz 1417!!

I bought a 222 Weirauch many many years ago and it was really bad.
I got it somewhere useful in the end.

It was the crown. The barrel had been parted off so forcefully it had crimped the steel in so much the bullet was getting severely swaged just as it emerged.
I cut 1/2" off it and it started grouping, at last.
I was severely disappointed and told everyone that Weirauch should stick to airguns!

Sorry Ben.
I would love to see makro shots of your muzzle??

Thanks for the info' I will try to get a photo of said muzzle when I am next at the range where it is stored, but wont be for a week.

Me and my dad both use a hw60j in 17hmr they have been faultless the only down side is the mag size. I can remember the barrel needed after shot before the groups tightened but since then has always been single hole groups

Agree about the mag, but good to hear you are pleased with ther accuracy results of yours, trying mine again on Thursday.

Hey don’t know if this is resolved but my mentor has a HW66 and it shoots spot on we only use CCI subsonics or Stingers through it

Can easily pick off foxes at 80 yards
