Oh that was another story, someone in our group left a shotgun cartridge in his coat, talk about over reaction. Armed police stormed area, i think that was at Zagreb, so we'd all gone through Heathrow security OK.At least you didn't fall foul of Customs / Border force![]()

Thanks, how was the trip/hunting.One trip to George with Easyjet, no problems, excepting the dates couldn't be matched exactly, needing a day early arrival & a day later departing. Heathrow.
Where do you put it?. Note to everyone DONT put a knife in your rifle case or ammo box
Do you really need to take one? In 3 trips to SA I have never needed one- PH has one and trackers/ skinners etc have plenty.Where do you put it?

In your main checked in hold bag, that way it’s in the hold and it’s been scanned. I was in Johannesburg waiting to pick up my rifle and ammo in the Border Force office second time I went through there and an American had a knife in his rifle case, next minute much grief, it got confiscated and he then started parting with dollars Knives in your main hold case onlyWhere do you put it?
Nowhere in any airline that I have travelled with, specify knifes cannot be packed with a firearm and / or ammunition. In your main checked in hold bag, that way it’s in the hold and it’s been scanned. No problems in hold luggage. Travelled many times with knife in suitcase, most recently just a few days ago.Nowhere in any airline that I have travelled with, specify knifes cannot be packed with a firearm and / or ammunition.
& I would expect a freakout event if I had put knives in my hold luggage.
I understand your point it a reflection of your experience. I am just feeding back what happened Dec 2024 at Heathrow group of 14 at BA desk 3.5 hours faffing around with paperwork and payment for rifles and ammo. Having completed that leg one of the guys had a knife in his rifle case at scanning it was rejected ( before we even got to border force) he had to go back to BA desk redo his paperwork and dispose of the knife as his hold luggage had already been checked in. Equally watched an American guy held at Joburg Border Force for having knife in rifle case, it was confiscated and he was given a hard time. Lesson, just put any knife you are carrying in your hold baggageNowhere in any airline that I have travelled with, specify knifes cannot be packed with a firearm and / or ammunition.
