I am looking at a Driven boar trip to Hungary. We live in Devon, has anyone flown to Hungary with firearms, if so who did you fly with? What advise would you give.
I have travelled exstencively with fire arms allover but never to Hungary.
many thanks, Tusker

One trip to George with Easyjet, no problems, excepting the dates couldn't be matched exactly, needing a day early arrival & a day later departing. Heathrow.

Easy jet very good British Airways awfull, every trip it’s as if they have never seen a rifle before, two trips on boar this year 3.5 hours at the BA Heathrow desk, pantomime

BA ??? They've not improved then since 2017,
lost rifle;s, left and right hand no idea they were connected, scrap bits of A4 taking down Cert details, security had no idea what to do 1 bloke was not allowed to touch the trolley, passengers told to leave firearms on a conveyor unattended. It was like a sketch from Monty python.

At least you didn't fall foul of Customs / Border force:coat:
Oh that was another story, someone in our group left a shotgun cartridge in his coat, talk about over reaction. Armed police stormed area, i think that was at Zagreb, so we'd all gone through Heathrow security OK.

😂- friend of mine left a few round of 270 ammunition in gun case with rifle in east London SA. After being taken off the plane he had to remove ammunition, luckily the pilot was very obliging and held onto the ammunition until we landed in Joberg airport and handed ammunition back- trying to dispose of the ammunition in Joberg airport was an issue as no one in authority wanted to take it- in the end the lady booking the rifles off the flight reluctantly took them. No drama out there on that trip luckily- however there is away some drama with BA. Personally I have no intentions of flying with firearms again.

BA this year after 3.5 hours at the desk when they eventually sorted the paperwork when we got to scanning there was a knife in the rifle case of one of the guys on the trip, he had his case rejected, had to go back to BA desk and start again, despite the fact that on both BA’ web site and the Airports Advise site no mention of don’t put a knife in your rifle case. Note to everyone DONT put a knife in your rifle case or ammo box

Do you really need to take one? In 3 trips to SA I have never needed one- PH has one and trackers/ skinners etc have plenty.
I don't know.
I've never been anywhere without my knife, and it would feel very odd to me not to have it on my belt, but then again I've never been abroad so airports are something I have no experience of.
Presumably there's some provision made for travelling with a knife, just as there is for firearms?

Where do you put it?
In your main checked in hold bag, that way it’s in the hold and it’s been scanned. I was in Johannesburg waiting to pick up my rifle and ammo in the Border Force office second time I went through there and an American had a knife in his rifle case, next minute much grief, it got confiscated and he then started parting with dollars Knives in your main hold case only

Nowhere in any airline that I have travelled with, specify knifes cannot be packed with a firearm and / or ammunition.
& I would expect a freakout event if I had put knives in my hold luggage.

I've flown Sweden to Hungary quite a few times. Entering Hungary only had my rifle checked once. Other times picked rifle case of the luggage carrousel and wald out of the airport. Normal checking of rifle and paperwork onthe way out. Flying out of a Swedish airport has never been a problem no matter what airline I've used.

No problems in hold luggage. Travelled many times with knife in suitcase, most recently just a few days ago.

I understand your point it a reflection of your experience. I am just feeding back what happened Dec 2024 at Heathrow group of 14 at BA desk 3.5 hours faffing around with paperwork and payment for rifles and ammo. Having completed that leg one of the guys had a knife in his rifle case at scanning it was rejected ( before we even got to border force) he had to go back to BA desk redo his paperwork and dispose of the knife as his hold luggage had already been checked in. Equally watched an American guy held at Joburg Border Force for having knife in rifle case, it was confiscated and he was given a hard time. Lesson, just put any knife you are carrying in your hold baggage

A similar situation with airlines / airports, as with different firearm licensing areas.
Half the time the airline staff are not up to speed on what their own company says you can or can't do., even to a different approach by the same company at another foreign airport.
Best experiences I ever came across with firearms & travel was once through the pipe ... French side "AH! Chasseurs! ... "Bon Chance"! , second was at disembarking at Basel Mulhouse (Swiss police side), just walked straight out to the car hire.!
